GPS & Depth finder
Should I get them separate or are combos good and what do you recommend?

Re: GPS & Depth finder
I have never had a separate GPS but I do have a Lowrance with chart-plotting and i absolutely love it, when I go to lake I don't know I am never lost, I put a Navonics card in it and it is outstanding.
.
With that being said, I think Hummingbird seems to get you more for your money on the units I have seen.

We have the Garmin 431s and it works great. I installed it in place of the fishfinder that came with the boat and just had to make the opening larger. It comes with all the lake maps installed.

Re: GPS & Depth finder
I would get a combo with the largest screen you can afford. Lowrance would be my first choice.

I have 385 series hummingbird on the toon color GPS. It works great on that boat. I personally didn't want something huge on my dash this was the best fit for my helm. You may have more space or the flush mount option which I wish I had.

I have the Lowrance HDS 8 with all the bells and whistles-Capt Sully wrote:steveiam,

I wasn't sure how much I would use the down and side scan but I never want to be without it again-
And the chart/lake maps are very useful.

Re: GPS & Depth finder
If you are running a trolling motor for fishing you might want to check out the Humminbird. With a combo unit the new I link, with Lakemaster mapping will link your trolling motor course onto your sonar screen. Lots of great units and combinations with the Humminbird units and they are developing new technology every year. I do not have the I link but run a 797 si unit and am very happy with it.

I like that outrigger you set up there. Been thinking about doing something very similar.
