1985 Evinrude tilt and trim question

#1 Post by 1arunem » Sun Jan 27, 2013 6:27 pm

Hi guys, this one doesn't pertain to my toon, but my bass boat.

It has a 1985 Evinrude 70hp with tilt and trim. Well, I had to put the boat in the back yard for a few days and my dog decided to get up in the boat and chew on my throttle lever that has the integral tilt/trim switch. As you can imagine, it is no longer functional (the tilt trim switch).

Best I can tell, it is a three wire system that of course used a momentary switch. Can I just get another typical momentary switch, wire it up similarly and remote mount it?

It was thumb operated on the throttle handle with up/down movement. It has was appears to be three contacts, the center (ground?), up and down..

Thanks..
Warren..

That should work, but that switch shouldn't be that much money.

Problem is the handle that the switch fits in is mangled. I would have to replace the whole assembly.

Any SPDT switch should do. Make sure it isn't too little. It doesn't carry much current tho, as it is talking to relays at the motor.

FYI, I finally got around to fooling with the tilt/trim issue. I installed a SPDT switch and it seems to be working well. Hope to get on the water soon!
