Do I have a small hole in my pontoon?
I was cleaning the toons today and saw something strange. I saw bubbling in the cleaner and water right along a weld where the vertical riser is attached to the toon. Seemed as though there was a minor pressure difference between inside the toon and atmosphere and the bubbles were forming.
Closer inspection revealed a hairline crack as well but it is extremely small. Obviously this does not seem normal.
Would normal procedure be to weld this up or seal it with something like JB weld? Seems like welding might be overkill not to mention expensive. Apparently ST does not warranty these welds under the lifetime warranty according to a dealer.
Thanks
Bill

Get it welded, the JB will just piss the welder off when you do decide to do it right, presurerise you pontoon to 3 PSI, NO MORE than three PSI and check for more leaks and get them all fixed at once.

Might cost a couple hundred, but welding is the only real fix.

Welding is the way.
If you have water in the tube you should be able to hear it sloshing around. A buddy of mine was moving my trailer while I was standing near and I was surprised when I heard a sloshing noise. Took the plug out of the rear of the tube and emptied about 10 gallons of water.
This actually happened from a weld job. They did not properly pressure check their work. It is difficult to pressure check with only 3 psi. Most welders air guages are not that calibrated. Thus I would recommend pressurizing it to 3 psi, water spray check and leave overnight. Should still be pressurized the next morning if good.

You have to get a low presure gauge to read 3 PSI

Found a good welder less than two miles from the house and has experience on toons. Charges $60 an hour so he will get it soon.
