I have not started my motor since sept last year it has been in dry storage at the lake, I plan on using it tue feb.12 I was wondering how long can I run it just to see if the battery will start it .....DRY don`t want to put in the water then find out all of the batterys are dead an need a charge....so say if it would start & I turn it off quickly AM I ok??

Can't say how long you can safely run it dry, but I'm certain it won't be long enough to replenish the battery reserves you'd utilize to start it to find out if it would or will still start.

Don't start an outboard AT ALL NOT HOOKED UP TO WATER. You'll destroy your water pump impeller ... most likely immediately. Trust me...

Now you have me wondering who was the old member that would have an issue with you using motor when we have engines

Thanks guys I will get in water 1st I do have a portable generator....
AND I used to have motor-scooter with a gas engine

yep, agree with everyone else... don't dry start it... you could use a set of muffs, but you could also just back it down the launch and fire it up and let it run while it's still sitting on the trailer... just make sure you back up enough to get the motor in the water....

Oh, what the hell... don't be scared.... fire that bugger up where it's parked.... open the throttle, wide open, for about 20 mins to charge the batteries.....








But.... don't forget to bring the phone number to your 'engine' replacement man!
