New boat is home!

#1 Post by jasonsamko » Fri Mar 29, 2013 5:34 pm

Yesterday I left my house at 4am, drove to Elkhart Indiana and picked up my trailer from trailersforpontoons.com. Then left there and drove to wayland michigan to pick up my boat. Tested the boat on gun lake for a bit then loaded up and drove 3 hours home. so total of 13 hours door to door.
got my gps installed, sharkhide applied to tubes inside and out and underskin, waxed, and ready for the lake to melt here!
2013 Sylvan 8522 lz le Tritoon with a mercury 150 4 stroke. 15 1/4" x 14p enertia ss prop. Tritoon trailer with brakes on all wheels.

Love the boat! tried a couple props. tried the 15 1/4" x 14p ss and it pulled hard out of the hole and i hit 36 with 2 guys but had to let off as i ran out of lake (still half frozen). Tried the 15 1/4x15p aluminum and it didnt have the lowend grunt but probably would go a couple mph faster and it lost bite in the corners. So i went with the ss 15 1/4x14p and they gave it to me free!
only complaint so far is i hate the stupid lock out key on the trailer surge brakes!!! dumbest thing i ever seen, but i modifed it so i can live with it.

Beautiful boat. Great contemporary floorplan. Nice that you won't have to make an upgrade from here.

A boat like this is what's really popular in the tritoon retail market.

Your Enertia prop is exactly what you need, and the standard of the industry for pontoons/tritoons. I'm glad you got to run the boat, if in even less than great conditions.

Congrats! It looks really great, both boat and trailer. My trailer must be a little different, as it does have the 5-pin wiring with reverse lock out.

I'm sitting here at our lake this morning still waiting for a lot of ice to clear, while my new boat remains in the shrink wrap, fully rigged. It's a beautiful sunny day again but rather cool and breezy, in the 40's. I can't imagine being out on that lake, especially given how much further north you are. Even on open water here, I'd be worried about submerged ice chunks floating around. As much as I want to get it wet, I think I'll give it a couple weeks and play it safe.

Enjoy the new toon!

Beautiful boat!! Love the floor plan, especially the seats aft of the captain.
One word of caution: if you haven't had a 4 stroke motor before, be aware that they are usually so quiet that you might forget it's running and try to restart it.
I've had people get on mine and ask if the motor is running as we back out of the dock area. I've only forgot once and I remember somebody on here saying that the starter is the most replaced component on 4 strokes.
Best of luck and happy boating!
