Pontoon Fencing
We are currently exploring an avenue that would give us access to newer OEM style pontoon fencing and paneling in a multitude of colors. I am not talking about some of the others you see online that offer only square kits in one or two colors. This if we decide to pursue it would give us access to many options, large front radius, large rear radius, rear entry, and just about everything in between and in a lot of new, high end colors.
Is this something you folks that are redoing pontoons have interest in? Is it something that you typically find hard to find? Is it "in the budget" on a typical rebuild?
I know in the several boats that I have done, fencing is usually a struggle. I've "re-skinned" paneling with the vinyl/plastic material available through several companies on line only to find it really hard to do, and even harder to make look nice.
If anyone has any thoughts, wishes, or comments on the subject, I'd love some feedback.

I like the idea, I reskinned my rails during my rebuild and hope I never have to do it again... I think that the most important hard to get items to make a old toon look new is fencing and rub rails... Only problem is fencing is expensive! Also IMO the paneling that on the market now for skinning rails is crap! I had the coast guard bump into my boat the other day very lightly and it put a huge dent in my boat.

I agree, that vinyl/plastic just doesn't hold up well. Not to say that some of the metal does either, but I see a little more forgiveness in the metal. As far as pricing goes, these will likely compete with other kits on the market and be in the $1200-$2200 range depending on size and options, but should easily bring the more modern feel to the pontoon that a lot of people are after when restoring their boat.Mrtoler wrote:I like the idea, I reskinned my rails during my rebuild and hope I never have to do it again... Re: Pontoon Fencing
I think shipping would be the biggest hurdle??? That would probably cost 4-500 to ship I would think.

Re: Pontoon Fencing
Shipping is definitely an obstacle we have to tackle. For the same reason some of the other guys break their kits down in to small sections, giving it that older look, but allowing them to ship it "ground" we will not do that and will stick with full size pieces that will look OEM, but have to get freighted. Thankfully, we have some great connections in the freight industry and think we can provide this service pretty reasonably and still be competitive with others in the field.curtiscapk wrote:I think shipping would be the biggest hurdle??? Re: Pontoon Fencing
Must be a demand for the nice oem cutom style fence. I know that they are now available from restorepontoon.com . When I build another boat I want to get a custom fence and not the big box store style. If you have any examples I would love to see what you guys can come up with ! Now will you offer the custom radious seating to fit the new style fence ? Sound very interesting good luck with you venture !

Yes, we are working on developing larger radius furniture to match, along with some other awesome things that you can add to mix things up a bit that are along the lines of some of the newer OEM's coming out. Some of these will debut on my newest rebuild here in the next few weeks. Stay tooned!

Re: Pontoon Fencing
I am definitely interested, i just butchered a paint job on my 25fter (contemplating sandblasting) and am looking for something nice to put on it, I am also having my 21ft deckboat refloored and need a fence for that also (be done in 2 weeks), my wants are simple, no doors just a walk through in the front and engine opening in the back... I do not want anything to do with the "cookie cutter" styles that are available online, it has to have a "cool" factor.my options so far is a guy on ebay that sells what looks like factory blems or have the local pipe bender / t-top maker make me up something custom..please post pics, I am in the market for 2 sets.

Re: Pontoon Fencing
I have sold a few sets that I have acquired over the years, and what I have found it there is a demand but price is every thing. $1200 you'll sell them, $2200 I doubt it. Add freight to that and it would take a special some one. Having seen this topic come up a number of times on different forums, there always seems to be lots of interest at first. I think it's because it's not a readily available item, and that always creates a buzz. I did see where one site said they would offer it but the last time I looked there's no mention of it or any pricing either. I think when all the info is on the table it's cost prohibitive. I hope it works out for you, it would be nice to have another source!

Re: Pontoon Fencing
We are working out the details on a "demo" kit that will go on a 20' pontoon I am doing, it is the best way to get a determination on cost, time, etc. Hope to have pictures up in the next 2 weeks.
