Before you put more hours on your boat, go back to DAH PRO-Peller shop and ask them to replace your prop with one that does a better job.

We seldom see any 4 bladed props on pontoons, as 3 bladed props just work better for pontoon/tritoon boat use. 4 blade props are most often seen on bass boats for acceleration.

The standard of the industry for a pontoon/tritoon is a Mercury Enertia, and it comes in 1" pitch increments so they can be dialed in perfectly. For Yamaha, the OEM Reliance prop is the one to get.

I have the new Merc spitfire. Its a 4 blade supposedly designed for toons . It works better than the 3 blades I have tried.

Vengeance might be an option
www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/sport/vengeance/
maybe something like a 13p

Smoker, yeah, it's a semi tri-toon. 3/4 lenth center tube, and lifting strakes. New option 2012.
I talked to DAH, and they said I was good for 1 free rework, and they'd pay return shipping.
Good news, but I don't know if they can recover what I had, much lees gain any by taking out
too much tip-cup they added. We'll see, hope it'll be weather left to check it out!

Thanks,
jim.

Bamaman, thanks. Shop said they are familiar with perf-toons, and recomemded the Solas, I had
also looked at before. I may have to redo, as I have lost and gained on props in the past. This
might be a looser. Problem that I have found is that, many of the prop selector utiulities
don't even consider the boat configuration. And the Mercury Selector that does, doesn't know between two or three tubes for a pontoon. And that is a big difference.
Thanks,
jim.

Bamaman, also, recomended prop by DAH was back ordered by their suppplier. So I found one
cheap and had it drop shipped to them, for their recomended work.
Lived, but never learn on some things. I guessed on prop for a brand new 1998 Winner Spirit/175XRI
Merc. combo. Nailed it, lucky, 26P Predator. New tech at the time, defunct now.
This time not lucky, even though I THOUGHT I did my homework.

Thanks,

Got prop back with rework, better, back some to 30mph and 5900. I talked to DAH again, and they don't want to take out anymore cup yet.
"Jack up mtr." I was going too anyway, after adding Baystar and old manual plate I have laying around. I'd treally like TrophyPlus but shortest
pitch is 17P. Then TempestPlus come in 15P, but barrel too big. I really want to better the stock cheapy and get revs. in the 6300 range.
I'll see the new numbers, and if not there, I guess I'll sell and minimize loss.
Then look at an Enertia.
Thanks,
Jim.

I would think with strakes and the 3/4 tube you should do better speed wise. I put my underskinning on this weekend and ran a solid 27 with a few up ticks to 28 with a full tank of fuel. This with a standard twin tune 522 and the same Merc 115 4 stroke. I run the 4 blade Merc Spitfire a few hundred under max rpms. I was only running 24-25 end of last year. I contribute it to mostly clean toons as this was the first time in for the year. Also glass calm and a 50ish morning probably helped with the extra few mph. The underskinning may have helped a bit too but I did that more to get rid of the water brakes when running on rougher water. I hated that feeling of slowing down when the waves caught the cross members. I really like this 4 blade prop.

Smoker, that's pretty good. I agree with you. I'm probably just shy of hsp peak only turning 6 grand or so. That's why I mentioned prop shop said stay with 15P.
I probably should have gone with 14P, OR maybe even 13P, and cupped the he!! out of it to get the grip I wanted.
1. Went with their recommendation.
2. Didn't run prop before being worked.
3. Shop recommended on screamandfly.com they should know, but ?

Anybody else ideas? Have to wait and see what plate does.

Where are you located ? Ricky at Brainerd props in MN is awesome. He sent me 3 different stainless props to try on my 250 Verado and I never payed him a dime. Well, until I picked one that is. I have bought numerous props from him for my last 3 boats just because of his customer service. His knowledge is tops too.

I think DAH is about 25 miles from me. If I remember right , he has a dirty old barn he works out of behind his house. I dropped a prop off for a buddy a year or so ago , couldnt believe the place .Looked like an abandoned petting zoo, but thats where miracles happen I hear.

The standard of the industry for pontoon boats is the Mercury Enertia prop, which are available in 1" pitch increments.

But it's a stainless prop, and the cheapest price I know online is $445 @ Jacos in Lawrenceburg, TN. Jacos doesn't allow returns, so you've got to be sure of the size you need.

I suggest looking at Mercury's performance testing to see what pitch props they're running on comparable boats to yours.

Well boat/engine tests were about what I remembered. Nearly identicle Crest, full trytoon 200lb more, 30.9@6200. Aluminum BlackMax 13P. Then there's this Weeres 2 tube, 1580lb light, 29.5@6380, Spifire 13P. Slip doesn't add up here. The aluminum BlackMax tighter than the Spitfire? Don't think so. But it pretty clear I have too big a wheel, and need to get r's up into the hsp band.

I don't know how this is going to work even with the plate.

Thanks, oh I've done a little with Jaco's, and their prices are excellent.

And they took a prop back with a restock fee. But it had better look like it did fresh out of the box.

I had problems with the dealer installed prop...

I took it back to them, changed it out... and posted this: They Got My Prop Right.

The photo shows 29.3mph. That was with wife and child, cooler, etc... When I'm alone in boat, with 1/2 tank of gas, and glass surface water... I can maintain 30mph, gps.

My 13.75x15p prop is a cheap, black, aluminum, 3 blade. Nothing fancy. With it, I can pull heavy tubes 20+ mph.

PlayDoc, you might try one more. You were obove yor power band before, and you're below it. I hear, and beoleive these DOHC 4 strokes like to rev. I think you want to be in the 6200-6300 range. Right where a 13P would put you.
