Built a cover storage shelf in the rafters

#1 Post by kryptonite » Mon May 06, 2013 2:22 pm

Tired of dragging around cover. Figured I'd be more motivated to put it back on if it was easier. This way I can cover and uncover and just throw the tarp up on this shelf.

When I rebuilt my boat I left a 6 inch gap between the back seat and the fence so I can just stuff the cover there out on the way but still handy.

I hit my head anyways. The shelf is off to the side of the center isle. I can't quite stand up on the boat except between the rafters. Still beats the hell out of parking it outside.

Also notice the outlet in the rafters, for plugging in the shop vac.

Great idea!

Would be great for people that trailer to a vacation lake, or have the boat in a slip.

Great idea.

To help keep from knocking yourself out on the shelf or rafters, take some of the floaty noodles and slice them open lengthways -- you can then put these over the edges of the rafters and around the edge of the shelf.

Excellent idea, with it still fastened to the stern, it looks like its a snap to re-cover, too!
Good Job!

It's amazing all of the ideas and knowledge that are on forums like this. I've learned more from forums than anything else. I'd rather ask a question here than at the dealer.

I did something similar. since mine is in a sling i used a plastic tote to put the cover in an i used a peace of pvc to hold the poles. also hung a milk crate up to hold cleaning suppilies.

I can tell you where NOT to store your boat cover -- and that is on the ground. We uncovered our boat one weekend last summer and I folded up the cover and set it on the ground. At the end of the weekend when I went to get the cover, as I unfolded it, I discovered a scorpion had curled up inside the cover -- not a happy site. :x

Did the same thing with the cover on my old Baja. Set it on the garage floor. It was down for 2 days. Went to put it on and a momma mouse ran out with 4 or 5 babies in tow, and a nice hole in the cockpit cover. I was so pissed! Never on the ground or floor again!

Guess I'll take the cat tracks over mice holes, even though I'm not real fond of the cats.
