G3 V20 with an F90
So like I said in the welcome forum..I kind of got my eye on a new G3 V20 with an F90 and galvanized trailer with 13inch wheels. I asked G3 which trailer would be best if I were to trailer on a regular basis.
G3 said the LPB 14-20..that is the 20 foot trailer with 14 inch wheels. But I cannot find it on their site to check the capacities etc.
Anyone here have any info on the trailer G3 is telling me about?
Thanks tony

You got us there. Many boat dealerships choose to purchase trailers locally or through an outside manufacturer. I assume it's because they can buy them direct and pocket the middleman's profits.
Most for a 20' pontoon boat just use a single axle trailer. But some 20' trailers are lighter than others. I'd prefer one that was the heavy duty version with a more substantial frame.

Re: G3 V20 with an F90
Just because the boat manufacturer recommends a certain trailer, doesn't mean that the boat you're looking ats included trailer isn't a good one. My Beachcomber came with a Rolco trailer, which was built locally. After all the trailers I've seen on here, and around the boat docks, I appear to have one of the better build trailers around, and I'd bet that it wouldn't be the recommended one by Beachcomber, as it's made here locally, and the boat wasn't. Now, that being said, we've seen on this very site where a person will purchase a brand new boat and trailer, and the trailer that the dealership has included is nowhere near as sturdy or sufficient as it needs to be. For a 20' boat, you can have a tandem axle trailer, but most likely it will be a single axle, with 10" tires. So the fact that the one you're looking at already has the 13" tires, I'd say that's a plus, but that's my personal opinion. You also have to see that the axle and tires on the included trailer are sufficient for the weight of your boat, plus fuel, plus gear, coolers, BEER, etc. You can pretty easilly add 600-1000 lbs. of stuff to a boat, espeically comming back off the lake, and you want to make sure the tires and axle are rated for that amount of weight.
One other thing I will say is that if you have your boat off the trailer, and it seems to bounce around a lot, or flex a little, that's normal. Pontoon trailers use the boat as some of the strenght, just as a lot of trailers us the deck as their strength. A trailer will perform completely different with no boat on it, so test with your boat on it, if at all possible. One last thing, if you plan in the future to add any type of brakes to the trailer, make sure the brake flange is alredy on the axle(s) of the trailer. If not, you'll need a new axle before you an add brakes, if it doesn't already have them.
Good luck to you, and send up pictures or spec's if you have more questions.

g3 uses bear trailers..the PB13-20 (capacity 2232) shown in link below is what i was going to get in galvinized ..but I like to go a littler overkill on trailers to make sure I have no issues on the road. So that is when I emailed G3 and he told me about the LPB 14-20 (capacity unknown). not showm on their site.
check out the specs on the V20F they have a package weight of 2805..not sure what that means..boat with trailer?

Re: G3 V20 with an F90
I cant look at those sites at work, (darn filters) but if the only difference is the rim size, (probably because they get a heavier rated tire in a 14" diameter) then you could get the one offered (with 13" tires) and just buy a better tire, to handle the extra weight. If there are other differences (i.e. brakes) then it may be worth the extra cost to step up. I like over-building things as well, so I hear you on the wanting a more than capable trailer.

Get a dual wheel trailer and be done with it. If a tire blows on a single axle trailer it's not going to be pretty!!!

Yes, and because it's rated under 3,000 pounds, it will probably have no brakes.motocross wrote:check out the specs on the V20F they have a package weight of 2805..not sure what that means..boat with trailer?
Get the one that's rated over 3,000 pounds, and it will probably* come with brakes - either electric, or surge. I prefer electric.
* The weight limit for requiring brakes is 3,000 pounds in 33 of 50 states.
