Anybody ever dyed their bimini fabric?
I was wondering if anyone has ever dyed their bimini. My top is heavy material like a tarp or tent canvas, vs others that are more cloth like. I would like it to be a darker brown, rather than the light beige it is now. Any thoughts?

I dyed the Bimini on my Day Cruiser a few years back. It was standard drab canvas and I wanted it purple like the boat.
I was going for THIS
But even after 3 dye cycles I ended up with THIS

I have used fabric paint (spray on) on some things with good luck but I have never tried it on something that will see that much sun and water.

I used Rit dye on my canvas top. I was going for navy blue, but either the tub was too small or I didn't leave it soak long enough. Regardless, it came out looking like stone washed denim. Not what I was shooting for, but it looks really unique and I'm quite pleased with the accidental results.

Your top is most likely made from what is known as solution dyed Acrylic. It only accepts dye when being manufactured from the base materials.fiddlebick wrote:I was wondering if anyone has ever dyed their bimini. The dyed solution is a liquid that is spun into individual fibers. What you want to do is "yarn" dye and it can't happen since the Acrylic will not accept it.
Don't waste your time, it won't work - sorry.
