Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
Funnels & siphons will work IF I park on the tank side of the dock. Otherwise I can't access the tank way out on the end of the log, no platform, no door, too far to reach. Kinda dumb placement IMO and I've noticed many newer 'toons around my lake with the same issue.
The 'toons with a (hidden) under-deck tank have nice long fill tubes with a screw-off cap placed at a convenient height.
Apparently nobody makes a fill tube that allows this convenience with tanks that have a screw cap. I called Moeller and was told nobody has ever asked but as far as they know it's not illegal to have a fill tube extension on a tank. I've found there are lots of take-off fill tubes & caps from PWC on eBay that could be adapted to my needs.

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
For those of you that have the removable tank, do you ever experience leakage from it?
Ive been getting leakage, not a dripping leak, but enough to be noticeable.
That is a brand new tank ordered from the manufacture.

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
open the lid a few turns. the new portable fuel tanks do not have a vent. that is also why your tank is swollen in the picture. the leaking is from the pressure that is being built by the gas fumes that cannot vent and it needs to find a way out or the tank will break at some point.

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
I don't think the tank is swollen. its always been a rounder tank when I bought it new.
Do you leave it vented ALL the time, even when driving? That tank has less than a quarter in it. even with that little of gas it will swell?

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
when I had the original cap on it I never tightened it all the way. but with my older motor the tank needs to be vented. I ended up changing the cap with one from an older tank that had a vent on it. I never close that vent either or about a hour later I can go outside and the tank is swollen.

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
yea I have an old tank that came with the boat, that has the different cap and has a vent in the center. Then a brand new, with new EPA regulations on it, with this cap with no vent.
Its frustrating

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
Something like this. It has a vent on the top. I keep mine open all the time. Keep in mind I still had an incident of vapor lock where it stalled out on me. If it happens again I'm going to look for an old tank.katieclooney wrote:yea I have an old tank that came with the boat, that has the different cap and has a vent in the center. Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
Someone mentioned a replacement spout for new gas cans. Here's one:

You can also search Utube for how to put a vent on the new cans using a tubeless wheel valve stem.

Re: How do YOU fill your tank?
Darn good idea! I suppose you take the core out and it's all set. One could also use the small stem to dribble a bit of gas out if you need it to "prime" a carb, a little unsafe solvent, etcTully wrote: You can also search Utube for how to put a vent on the new cans using a tubeless wheel valve stem.
