This is getting tedious

#1 Post by tuned » Mon Jun 24, 2013 7:33 am

I've been trying to remain patient, but dry land SUX!
I've always had a boat in the water. Always. For thirty plus years. Usually have a back-up boat or canoe available in case I have trouble with the primary. Of course I had to go and sell my fishing boat about two days before I had trouble with the new build. I ain't going into the details, hoping to have things squared away soon, but....
I...AM....STARTING....TO....TWITCH :scared
I am sure that I am not the only one that has experienced this curious feeling.
I have a hard time coming to the forum because I am juvenilely jealous of all the fun times that I am missing. I won't even drive out to the resorts because it just makes me miserable to watch the boats come and go.
I pour over the boat ads online, but I've been trying to simplify my world a bit and promised myself only one boat at a time.
Did I mention that dry land sux? Aaaauuuuugggghhhh!!!!!!!

Been there. It does suck. I surround myself with enough friends with boats so I can always get on the water, either as a guest or just to borrow a boat.

I know your pain, I was there for six years with money being so tight in Florida for so long and if my brother who was ready to hit the water hadn't been ready to help,I wouldn't have made this year and it wouldn't have came out so good.

I hope your pain ends soon :fasttoon

Ooooh bummer. JT is still in the race for the highly coveted 'Latest Launch Trophy', along with Craig and myself.
Technically, I had a launch, although I don't consider a one hour 'sea-trial' as much of one.
It looks like this might be a close one...anyone else in the running for the stupid frickin award? :prayer

Me too...waiting for mechanic #3 to figure out why my 3 year old Volvo wont idle. Used to be because carb was flooding big time. After three attempts at a rebuild, it sometimes will start and run at speed, but won't run under 1K rpm.

That makes FIVE of us that I know of. Welcome to the club guys :donno .
I finally fixed my original problem (u-joints) and got a much better alignment. Was hoping to get a launch today, but a WHOLE NEW fkng problem has surfaced its ugly head.
My starter is intermittent. Hopefully we find a loose wire somewhere. Can't even see the dang thing, it is so low in the hole. Gonna try to do it by feel alone.
If we can't solve it easily, the whole flippen' motor is likely to have to come out so the starter can be pulled. If I gotta do that....well lets just say its gonna take a little longer. Grumble grumble.
Did I neglect to mention that DRY LAND SUX? In this case, I am sorta lucky that the starter thing showed up on dry land and didn't strand me forty miles from home. Somehow I don't feel lucky right now. :x

I haven't launched yet. I bought a "new to me" pontoon the middle of May, and I am replacing the carpet with vinyl. It is taking much longer then I thought. I cant find anyone that will sell me the glue I need!. It has a plastic floor, so I need solvent based glue. I have had one place tell me they will order it for me. Then after waiting a week, I was told it is outlawed in PA, and they cant sell it. So, I tried to buy it in MD. "No problem, it will be in next week." After waiting another week "sorry, it cant be sold in MD as well!" :x Summer is passing me by! And I look out my window everyday and see this.

Actually, I bought 3 gallons of their glue about 2 months ago. I still have it sitting on my floor!
I was going to replace the flooring on my other pontoon boat, it has a wooden floor.
But when I found this one, the project was changed, and I want to put the new vinyl on the new boat.
I used about half a gallon Sunday to install new vinyl on the front of my old boat. I had to replace the front sheet of plywood as it was de-laminating.

I bought the vinyl from RvBoatParts on here. He was great to work with! He even shipped it Saturday delivery, so I would have it for Sunday. It is really nice material, I am thinking about putting some on the new boat too!

On a related note, I have 2 1/2 gallons of adhesive from pontoon stuff if anyone would like it, I'll sell it cheep. $35 + shippping for it all. It's brand new in the box, except for the 1 container I opened.

Just make sure you're using the correct vinyl mastic. There are many different kinds of flooring glues for different purposes. When in doubt, call the manufacturers. And Home Depot/Lowes doesn't sell all kinds of mastics.

My lake house has a NAFCO/Tarkington vinyl floor that looks like hardwood--3" x 36" strips. I originally used the wrong kind of vinyl mastic, and the floor has peeled up. I've spent the last 2 weeks taking the old floor up and reglueing the floor with Domco 400--a hard mastic. It's a water based material that quickly gets very sticky.

And don't forget that any floor that goes on a pontoon boat--vinyl or carpet--must be rolled with a heavy roller to get the bubbles out--and fully glued down. My old pontoon boat's carpet has too many bubbles--my mistake.
