Finished the dock. Before and After pics.

#1 Post by Ron Burgundy » Tue Jun 25, 2013 8:18 am

What started out as a simple clean and repaint turned into a complete rebuild. The dock was and old beat up 8' x 12' and now it's a completely fresh and new 6' x 16' with all new pressure treated lumber. The only thing that isn't new are the floats. It was a fun projrct and I spent some quality time with my father in law. He is a lifelong carpenter so this was right in his wheelhouse.

Thanks. Here are a couple more pics. It should be safer too. It will have 10' of verticle travel to go up and down with the tides and storm surge. It should handle about 4 feet of storm surge on a high tide.

All these pics were taken during the extra high supermoon tide.

It's amazing what a pressure wash and stain will do for a dock. Mine was on the critical list (my wife was critical every time she walked on it). We'd had two extensions (swim area and extended the slip for the Benni) and had to have some of the original cca boards replaced so it looked kinda like what an Ozarks dock looks like. Hired someone to power wash & stain and now the Admiral is on to other "critical" tasks.

What type of stain and color did you use on the dock? Looks great!

It's Baer Cedar Natural tone for Home Depot. I did two coats with only 1 gallon and still have about 1/4 can left.
