Burl Dash

#1 Post by shoundog » Mon Jul 08, 2013 6:39 pm

I have a Triton Summit that came with a Lowrance Depth Finder in dash. I just bought me a new Garmin Map 50 sonar/GPS. This unit is a little larger 1/2 in top and bottom, and I am going to try to trim the burl dash insert to fit the Garmin. Just wondering if anyone know where you can get a replacement insert or some of the burl materal in case of a mistake. Might even consider doing my own dash layout later using carbon fiber if I can find some of that. Thanks.

I have searched and searched for blanks to make my own dash panels and haven't found anything anywhere. I would make a template or experiment on something else if I thought I was going to screw something up before I cut into my dash.

Go to mydipkit.com (or any of the dipping sites) to get some ideas. They come in over 100 patterns including wood and carbon fiber. I am not certain about all dashes but a lot of factories use dipping to achieve their looks. You may even have some local shops that will do it for you.
