Throttle control box swap?

#1 Post by Darin » Sun Jul 14, 2013 5:05 pm

Do any of you guys know how to swap the handle around on this OMC throttle control box? The control was mounted to my old helm and I am installing a new helm and want to mount my control box on my rail so I wont be pushing and pulling on my new helm. I know it can be done but don't know how to get the handle off. I took out an allen head screw, thinking it may have been a set screw but the handle wont come off. I don't want to beat on it or put too much pressure on it and break the cast aluminum. Thanks.

That controller looks like it's meant to mount & operate only one way.

Nope it will work either way. I figured it out. You have to loosen the set screw then tap on the head of the screw with a hammer and punch to get the handle to release from the splines. I got it swapped and new cables installed on the controller end. Just need to mount it and run the cables to the motor.

Good job! Even though the "back" had the opening for the lever, and countersunk mounting screw holes, I still thought that without the recess for mechanical stops the lever wouldn't work right on the reverse side. I'm glad it does. Controls are expensive :)
