Water/fuel seperator

#1 Post by BillieS » Mon Jul 15, 2013 1:12 pm

I had some problems with my 2007 60 hp Bigfoot EFI merc last week. I found water in the fuel filter, let me correct that, I had more water than fuel in the filter The "worhtless Bowers marine dealer" did not have any filters in stock. :drink So I dried the filter, and went to Walmart :bowdown and bought an inline filter for a temp fix. Icleaned out the engine fuel filter and cleaned the bowl very good. Installed the inline filter on the system and the engine has run like a clock since then, like it should have. :nana The original problem was when I went to full throttle the engine would die. It did get me back to my camp site where I could do repairs. My question is what water/fuel seperator is everyone using that seems to work for them. I will mount the unit myself. Availability is a must when it comes to the filters. But I am looking for what has worked best to the memebrs here? I will make sure that the filter is changed annually with the oil and other filters on the system each season before use.

got in amazon, but the filters are available widely.

Just that amazon has it cheaper and I dont have to go on a 30 min drive to find one.

I have a sierra brand. Always keep a spare filter on the boat, just in case.

Agreed, always keep a spare. I have a spare seperator and fuel filter in the boat, along with the spare prop(s) and impellor/housing. That way I'm pretty much covered on our long trips.

Thanks everyone for your input. It looks like I will do some shopping for one. I know that Attwood makes them and sell at Wally world. I will also look at the serria withthe see through bowl.
