helm seat height
Stupid question but in my Southbay I feel too low in the seat. I like to sit higher up. Is it possible to buy a longer pedestal post ?

Just sit on one of those throwable boat cushions.

Re: helm seat height
I am not sure what type of pedestal you have, but they do sell different heights and even adjustable ones like this one

Re: helm seat height
EDIT: PontoonStuff does not sell them anymore for some reason, I guess I will have to start checking to see if they still sell the stuff I got from them before making recommendations, but who knows, maybe the company making them went belly up

DO NOT sit on your throwable boat cushions!!!OK Toon wrote:Just sit on one of those throwable boat cushions.
If you sit on it, you will reduce the effectiveness of your Cat IV throwable. I learned this in my BoatUS Boating Safety course.

Re: helm seat height
You can buy adjustable ones. The one linked above is an economy model. I bought this one.

Currently $72.90 at Amazon. I got mine in 2009 and it was the best $70 I ever spent on my boat. My 2001 Bennington's seat was too low and now it's great.

Re: helm seat height
The base at the floor is the same as mine. I have an adjustable seat base that sides but no height. How does the post mount to this base?

Re: helm seat height
Just slides down on the piston. My Premier has the Springfield Thru deck Mainstay. Its solid as a rock when locked into position, but slides, swivels and adjusts up and down real easily. If you have the same diameter seat base, you can add a non thru deck adjustable pedestal.
When I worked at a muffler shop (30 years ago), I made my own out of 2 1/4 exhaust pipe and swedged one end to go over the existing pedestal and the other to fit in the seat base in my Forrester Escape. Cost me....................Nothing! Might cost you a couple bucks. An Idea to try....

Re: helm seat height
My post does not pull out of the dome base. I would assume the fasteners are through bolts not wood screws into 3/4 plywood. I have underskin so I dont want to remove that to unbolt the whole post/base assembly.

Re: helm seat height
You can always add spacers to the bottom of the seat where it mounts to the pedestal, or try the exhaust pipe!

Don't want to date myself, but we got stuck on the old JC Penneys and Montgomery Ward catalogs. Those babies were thick! We used to shoot my old 218Bee into 4 of the them in the backyard, when my dad was at work... Ah, those were the days!

Re: helm seat height
I like my Springfield Mainstays but you need under deck clearance if you want a lot of adjustment range. I got a great deal on some 9"-14" "scratch n dent" slider units and bought 3 of them but the stick down 6" under the deck which was fine on my toon, just cut 3" holes and they stick through the underskin and stop just above the tube. 14" is JUST enough for my long legged 5'11" body but there are times I wish the captains seat was a touch taller when people are sitting in front of me.
