New Illinois fee...charging $6 for "Water Use Sticker"
Can you believe this? I may be giving my 5 noodles away to some pool owner friends, as it looks like noodles fit the criteria too...anything you float upon. This state is really hurting for money. And I say this, even as an owner of 2 kayaks adn a canoe, which now don't need the higher registration fee.
As of July 1, Illinois residents must have a $6 “Water Use Sticker” for anything they plan to just float upon - or, as referred to by the state, “all non-powered watercraft.” That includes inner tubes. The stickers do, however, replace the need for titles and registrations on kayaks and canoes.
The new law also requires life jackets for users of canoes, kayaks and, yes, inner tubes. Oh, and you can be arrested for OWI - or drunk boating - in an inner tube.
Stickers can be picked up at any Department of Natural Resources “point-of-sale” vendor, according to the state. The stickers are valid from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.

Time to move--out of that state. I left August of 1974.
I don't know of an inner tube that the sticker would stick on.
And how many ex-Illinois governors are in prison? Nuff Said!

Minnesota went the other way this year, Floatation "Toys" were a grey area along with needing to license paddle boards, paddle boats, inflatable row boats/kayaks. The new law this year exempts "human powered" stuff 10ft and less! It was funny to see registration decals on tiny paddle boats, it took up half the side!

We always floated around on a life vest, or cushion. Will these also be required to have a $ticker? Boat stickers that show 13 or 14 people with the weight shows that your overloaded anyway as very few people weigh 140 to 150 lbs. Add gas, motor, ice chest, ect and your way overloaded. Another government trying to make money off us that makes no sense. But now they think they have provide you with a safer trip to the lake.

I have no idea how this stupid state can enact this. They tried this same type stunt with the A,B,C stickers in the 80's. Nobody bought them either. Quinn is so stupid..

I have not read into this in detail, but there is no way to enforce it. Hell there's only like 1 game warden for 3 counties, don't think they will be on the lookout for innertubes without stickers.

Re: New Illinois fee...charging $6 for "Water Use Sticker"
What non-motorized vessels require a water usage stamp?
“Non-powered watercraft" is defined as any canoe, kayak, kiteboard, paddleboard, float tube, or other vessel not propelled by sail, canvas, or machinery of any sort. If you are using non powered watercraft as a conveyance (transportation device between two points) that non-powered watercraft requires a Water Usage Stamp.
From IL DNR site.
So just floating on a lake on an innertube wouldn't count the way I read it. It has to provide transportation between two points, so a float trip on a river, then you would need the sticker.

Re: New Illinois fee...charging $6 for "Water Use Sticker"
yea if you want to go tubing down the river, FEE!
you will need a sticker if your floatation device is used to transport you......which makes no sense cause couldn't ALL flotation devices be used to transport you?

Re: New Illinois fee...charging $6 for "Water Use Sticker"
yeah , I read it too from the IL department of natural resource and I agree with KRYPTONITE . I think it is stupid as well , but it is not meant for floating devices or tubing it is a fee for non motor boats .
I think your okay

Re: New Illinois fee...charging $6 for "Water Use Sticker"
I'd be more worried about an anxious LEO using the law to harass you for OWI. It's liek the window tint law around here...they use it for a reason to pull you over and check for some thing bigger...
Just one boat...after another, after another
