Bluetooth boombox?

#1 Post by robdew » Mon Aug 12, 2013 9:46 am

Rather than replace my crappy radio in my 'toon I am looking to get a portable bluetooth boombox that I can use on the boat as well as at home.

Anybody got one they like? Was leaning toward the Turtle Shell but they apparently aren't all that loud.

In case it's not obvious it needs to be rain/splashproof at the very least.

You could build a stereo cooler, that's what I did, I used all Marine grade components and it has a gel cell battery inside plays for 12-14 hours.. so we could listen to tunes while in the water behind the boat or take our stereo cooler to the beach and pool, here's the one I built,it weighs 78 pounds, has a radio remote, and a 4-channel amp, sounds GREAT! and plays loud! .Here's a web site for folks who build stereo coolers, check out their forum, here http://www.motorboatyourself.com/forum/index.php
or you can buy a pre-built stereo cooler http://aquaticaudio.com/

I've got a Creative D100 and it works/sounds OK, its the only one I found for under 100$ that actually had enough volume to use out in the backyard or pontoon boat and a set of 4xAA rechargeable batteries go all day. A lot of the fancy ones in the 200-300$ range might give better sound quality at LOW sound levels but they don't have the "power" for making music in large outdoor setting. It doesn't really pelt out enough decibels to be heard over 10mph but if it was it would be annoying other people. Its nice to toss where ever you want it, carry it on shore, to the camper, ect.
