cleaning fish
When I was younger I fished a lot! Then kinda got away from it for what ever reason. Well............. the last few years I bought a house at Lake of Ozarks, bought my tri-toon AND starting that fishing thing again. I now realize what I have been missing. So after finally deciding to keep some fish (especially after eating them) I need a better way to clean fish. I lost a 10 pound channel cat off of my dock and it was because of my stupid way of cleaning. Fish slipped off the board and hit the dock and slid off the side into the water and sunk. Nice fish but I wasn't going to jump in and try to find him. Anyway.........any thoughts on a fish cleaning station or ideas?
I want to keep the fish cleaning at my dock and I have looked around online and have come up with several table types that cost $400 and up. That's bit high but if that's what it takes then I guess that's it. Unless you guys have options to share.
I don't post much but I read everything. Love this forum.

Re: cleaning fish
Find an old kitchen sink and get a big cutting board with a hole in it. From the sink run a pvc pipe under water so fish guts go right down and not foul your dock. You could drill a hole in cutting board and drive a big nail through head and into holoe to hold fish.

Re: cleaning fish
A electric fillet knife is a very good tool to have.

Re: cleaning fish
Like the sink idea. Like the electric filet knife also. What to do now? I guess I'll procrastinate some and see what happens. I'll end up with something though! Thanks for your input!!!!

Re: cleaning fish
Troy, last time I was in Menard's in Lake Ozark they had a fish cleaning table that has folding legs. Don't remember the price, but IIRC it wasn't that much.
If you have a dock pump you can rig it with a spigot/hose to wash down the station.
Definitely get a good electric filet knife. Makes short work of the fish.

I do have a dock pump and I'll check out Menard's next weekend and looks like I definitely need an electric filet knife!!!bassn386 wrote:Troy, last time I was in Menard's in Lake Ozark they had a fish cleaning table that has folding legs. Don't remember the price, but IIRC it wasn't that much.

I have wondered how to get the "quote" from someone else's post in my reply. I finally figured that out. I'm feeling like I gain a few more brain cells every year!!!!

Re: cleaning fish
What's with the electric fillet knives here?
Phil and Jase Robertson would never approve. Willie might, tho.
I tried one a while back. Along with losing all my 'feel' from a nice flex, it had the added bonus of wasting quite a bit of meat. Are fish in other parts really that tough?

When you have used one enough you should have no more waste than manual filet knife.
Be sure and have a GFI plug
