Dealer Cost
Is there any way to find out dealer cost on South Bay pontoons? I am trying to deal on a new 'toon and would like to know if the price quoted is fair. Fairly simple info to find on wheeled vehicles, but I can't seem to find it on boats. Thanks!
Re: Dealer Cost
Sorry, but the marine business is not the car business. A boat dealer might sell 50 boats a year while the auto dealer might sell 50 new cars a month. Both have comparable expenses to open their doors daily.
Your best bet is to research prices of like size/quality/horsepower boats online. If you go to Boattrader.com and filter it for 250 miles from your zip code, you can pretty easy figure out which dealers are willing to compete for your business with a fair price. The dominant dealers kind'a stick out. Some manufactuers don't allow online pricing on new model year boats, and you'd have to call on the phone to those dealers.
Boat dealers often get discounts on boats ordered this time of the year (for winter delivery.) Some dealers buy them cheaper than other--depending on the number of boats ordered and other competitive reasons.
And despite what dealers indicate, the boat business is still suffering after the crash of 2008. MSRP is a pie in the sky.
