When does summer begin???

#1 Post by fiddlebick » Sat Aug 17, 2013 3:57 pm

Its the middle of august and cool, in the low 80's and it rains every other day it seems. This is the strangest weather I have ever seen in all my 54 years. I can't seem to get the boat out on my days off. Drove to my brothers yesterday to pick up the boat from his barn and my dodge started spewing water when I pulled in the drive..all afternoon fixing the water pump, no river...boo. I was so tired I didnt' bother covering the boat last night and ....yep...it rained. Rainy all morning so I pulled it back to my bro's pole barn and then it turnd out rather nice this afternoon....I just cant' win. Hope the sun shines tomorro.....PLEASE!

The spring winds usually subside the third week of May. This year, it was July 1st.

Summer is usually hot and very dry. This summer has seen rain virtually every afternoon and low 80's instead of 92-95 degree high temperatures.

We were out on the lake a few minutes ago, and my wife was very comfortable She was wrapped in a blanket. It was 72 degrees and cloudy. The water was pretty smooth, however.

In spite of a few thousand permanent lake residents, we only saw 3-4 boats and one swimmer in our one hour ride.

We're not through seeing some hot temperatures. Only good thing is that I've spent very little on boat gasoline this Summer. It is good yard work weather, however.

usually at lake at least once a week.....

havent been in over a month. if i'm off and weather cooperates, i usually have an obligation that prevents lake time......

sure hate to bitch about the rain.... 'cause Lord knows, it wasn't long ago, that we were praying for it..... grass was brown, lake/river levels down, local water restrictions all over the place..... the only place you were allowed to wash your car was at a commercial car wash.....

I drop mine in at the slip in late February or the first of march, and being retired I get in a lot of use, last year I managed to clock 164 hours, this year its a lot lower just a bit over 70, and the same here lots of rain and colder temperatures. I normally night fish this time of year and we are getting 50 to 60 here at night. Fishing also is way off.

What's 90* weather? In the 70's and water temps in the mid 60's is called a "great day" on the lakes up here! Lots of water sports going on on days like this!

When you get 1.5 inches of snow on May 2nd, you just know it's gonna be a weird season. We normally are on the water by late March, early April. This year we didn't drop her in until May 31st!
Lot of rain the early part of August. Some folks around here got flooded out. The water here at LOTO was higher than I'd seen it for many years. They even had to open the flood gates at Bagnall Dam, otherwise some lakefront properties might have have been under water and I understand that there was some reports of minor flooding on the Lake.
Supposed to warm up some this week, just in time for the LOTO Shootout. I'll be working one of the patrol boats during the races; hope it's not too hot.

It was 114 in Phoenix yesterday. A few of the 70 degree temps sound pretty good right now.

July was nice and hot. But your right, This has been the coolest August that I can remember. Temps in the 70's and into the 60's overnight. feels like Sept weather....weird.

It has been a really cool, wet Summer here in West Michigan. We had a 5 days of 90 degree weather in July and may have 1-2 more this week. Seen mid-40s for lows on multiple days. Ran my furnace and AC the same week.

I WANT MY GLOBAL WARMING!!

They promised me global warming and I want it. Although we've had pretty clear weather (I've been on the lake most weekends it has been way too cool (79 yesterday instead of the 90 it should have been))

I'm going to have to drive the SUV tomorrow. I WANT MY GLOBAL WARMING!!

Too bad...scientists have now stated we are in a global cooling trend...I remember in the 70s when liberals were all saying we'd be in an ice age by now. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Cool here the last 2 weeks with a heat wave coming this week.

The REAL scientists have always been saying there's no (anthropogenic) global warming. And we've not seen any solar caused global warming in about a decade.

Yet the global warming shysters continue their crusade to get us to abandon fossil fuels and all the benefits they bring us.

Our reason for not spending more time on the boat hasn't been due to weather -- it has been a cooler summer than normal (in the lower 90's compared to the lower 100's usually), but that's been great. We've just been so busy with other projects around our weekend lake place (at our dock and at the trailer). Launching/playing/loading the boat is usually an all-day activity and I just haven't had a day on the weekend to do that. But this past weekend we finally got the hydrohoist converted from dad's V-hull setup to the brackets and bunks I added for our pontoon boat. Now it will be much easier to drop it and go for a little cruze and still have time for my projects. But after Labor Day, I'm done with any big projects for this year and will spend more time enjoying the lake.

Yep as my neighbor in Broken Arrow said, quite cool for August in Oklahoma but still high 80's lower 90's. Evenings on the lake can be a bit cool but thats why we take a dry change of clothes for after swimming. Love the rainfall! Im hoping Keystone comes down some. It was 10' high Monday afternoon and just over 6' high as of now.
