On the Pontoon, Just took a few hours to enjoy the toon

#1 Post by HandymanHerb » Fri Sep 13, 2013 11:09 pm

On the Pontoon, took part of the day off and went out on the toon with my brother, first time I got to go out since on it since we put the new prop on it, a month an a half ago, we launched in Lk Minneola, took the channel to Lk Palatlakaha then over to Lk Minneola through a small channel to Lk Susan, then we took the crooked River, small and real crooked, said it was only a mile and a 1/4, that must have been as the crow fly's, and you had to idle all the way through it to Lk Louisa, the scenery was great, that is where the pictures are from, we ended up being out for three hours and found a few good fishing spots we need to try, as neither one of us have fished in so long it is not funny, but it was just great to get out on the toon, does a body good and the dogs loved it too.

Great shots Herb. I would love to find a stream like that to spend some time cruising on. Don't recall ever seeing any around here in AZ.

I wish there was a lot of places like this left, you have to hunt them out and drive to find them, but it is worth it

Well we did have to stop to the side and let some canoes by, it was about ten foot wide, but it makes a bunch of hard turns, didn't get low till we hit the big lake at the end, Lake Louisa is just a real big mud puddle, it is fed from the green swamp so it feeds the whole chain, we seen were the water was flowing fast out of the swamp, a little faster than the crooked river was flowing, north, so I guess the outlet was smaller than the river as it was moving so fast it was foaming up a little.

But the whole chain is down over four feet from where it use to be years ago

Nice pics Herb, looks like a beautiful place. I miss all the water and everything being green where I grew up in southeast Texas. With the Sabine River and all its gullies and sloughs, the fishing possibilities were endless. My buddy and I would get in my dad's 16ft flat bottom boat with a couple of gas cans and run the river all day. I miss being a river rat! Now, living in central Texas, you can't find a river deep enough to run a boat down, so you gotta use the lakes!

I lived in Orlando for over 20 years and visited the Clairmont chain of lakes many times although I did most of my fishing at Lake Toho (don't ask me to spell the full Indian name. At that time you could go all the way to Cherry lake in the North. Good fishing then but the water level seems to be dropping every year so I don't know how good it is now.

I just bought a home in Little Lake Harris Shores with a boat dock under house roof. Nice place since I can keep my boat on the water all year long except for routine maintenance. We have a community boat ramp which ,makes that easy.

Great pictures, thanks for them. The nice part about the Clairmont chain is there is shade in the canals. Makes for wonderful cruising.

My brother and sister n law have had it on the Harris chain a few times, I need to make it up there one of these days and we tried to get to Cherry Lake but it was to low to make it through.

And sorry Pete I missed your question about the bugs, we don't have them bad as up north, now if you out after dark you might get a few skeeters depending on where your at.
