scissors trailers
With the issues we have been having at our slip, see other post, I decided to buy a trailer. Found a used Triton scissors trailer . My buddy never cranks his down when launching or loading . Is this common practice on deep enough ramps ? I dont like the sound of the boat sliding on the trailer rails with the aluminum to metal . Has anyone ever installed plastic sliders on the rails ?
Also it sure seems like you could hang up your inside wings or spray shields if your not perfect coming in . Could not find any videos of using a scissors and I have no experience with one other than backing my boat off.

Re: scissors trailers
My first toon was a straddle type not scissor but same thing . I installed carpeted side guides so it had to load perfect on trailer. Yes you have to keep everything under tucked away to prevent pinching or breaking.
If you don't have tall bow stop be sure and add those then sink trailer deeper so the bottom doesn't contact trailer till it is at stop. Tie it down then pull out and it will settle on trailer.

Re: scissors trailers
How do you keep the ass end from floating off while you pull the trailer out ?

Re: scissors trailers
Once it is tied down in front it has no choice but settle correctly.

Re: scissors trailers
I think my scissor trailer is great.
In high water I can just float off when upright. Before loading I lower the trailer to keep from backing in as far and keep my tires off of the sand, gravel, moss, etc. I can also position the boat just where I want it before cranking it up. I mostly have low water at the ramp I use. Just crank down the trailer and off I go.
Also comes in handy when I have to work on the bottom of the boat or the trailer. Just set the boat on the ground and pull out the trailer.
Just keep in mind that your boat and trailer are very top heavy and the axles are narrow. Easy to tip over.

Re: scissors trailers
Bought my boat new last Memorial day. First pontoon and first time pulling a narrow trailer. Picked it up and headed 190 miles north at 75 mph. No problems but I did take the turns pretty slow. Probably be a little more cautious next time now that I have read a bit on them.

Re: scissors trailers
The dealer loaned me the scissors trailer when I bought it new . By buddy has one he uses twice a year and lets me use that for the same purpose. Launch in the spring , pull out in the fall, so I had no need to buy one.
Now with two seasons on my boat I figured it would be nice to have my own so I can pull it a few times a year and clean the carpet etc. I am 1 mile from my launch. Plus with the idiots trespassing at the marina the last couple weekends I don't feel safe leaving it in while I am 3 hrs away. I would still be OK trailering it home the 3 hours with the scissors if I needed too.
