Best pontooning & fishing: Truman Lake or Pomme de Terre?
So, my retiring friends are looking at moving to one of these two lakes in MO. They're avid fishermen, love to toon (want to get a fishing toon), want a quiet lake (so LOTO is out). Which lake would you recommend, and any other advice that will help them narrow their search to either Truman Lake or Pomme de Terre?

Re: Best pontooning & fishing: Truman Lake or Pomme de Terre?
Truman!! It is huge, cheap and lots of species to fish. The only downfall is spring floods if it rains alot the lake is high!
But land is cheap. Another downfall is no private docks on Truman. There are quite a few marinas but would be much better to tow it. There are lots of ramps all around the lake. The best thing is the lake is so big and without houses against the shore, compared to other lakes around its empty! I have pics to prove it. The crappie and catfish are the best but tons of bass, walleye, hybirds, whites, and spoonbill.
Redbeard can add more on the fishing though.
If they want more info pm me and I will get you all I can. I have reality links for my side of the lake ( Osceola, Lowry City)
THE VERY BEST PART IS PEE FLOWS DOWNSTREAM! Sorry my LOTO friends!

Pomme is a Corp Lake which means no development along shoreline. We weekend there because we like smaller and quieter. There are approx. 3 Marinas for slip rental. It is also a pretty private older area with a lot of older folks around. I'm not a retiree but there is not a lot to do other than fsh and enjoy the lake. Largest store around is a Dollar General! It is a very Family friendly atmosphere and not too many loud stereos around. Truman and Pomme are only about 30 minutes apart. I would encourage them to check both lakes out. Pomme also has many species including Walleye and Musky...
We love it!

It sounds like your friends can't really go wrong with either lake you mentioned. If they want to come a little further south, I highly recommend Table Rock Lake for good fishing and boating.

Well here's my
I've been on Truman now for 5 years I like to cruise still haven't seen all of the lake. If you want to be around people you can if not that's easy too some weekends I'm lucky if I see more than 10 boats on the water all weekend. There's over 128 miles of main channel on this lake so there is a lot of things to see here. The fishing is excellent for the most part, but it is a flood control lake so if we get a lot of rain the fish scatter. We have lots of wildlife here this year we have seen 34 pair of Eagles on and around the lake not bad sense the first Eagle I saw in the state was over 20 years ago. IMO they cant go wrong with any of the lakes around here hope this helps.

I'll add my $.02. Lake of the Ozarks gets a bad rep for all the big boats and traffic. That is certainly true for the lower part of the lake from Bagnall Dam up to about the 45-50 mile marker on the Osage arm.
But....the upper part of the Osage arm, above the 60 mm is not very friendly to big boats. It's kind of narrow, really more river than lake and shallow in many places. Yes, there's lots of bass boats, but that's mainly on the weekends.
If your friends are going to retire they can fish during the week and practically have the whole place to themselves.
I live near the 55 mm and even during the height of summer I go out in the evenings to do a little bass fishing and between Sunday night and Friday evening I might see an average of 2-3 boats.
They can have a place right on the water with their own dock at LOTO and I'm thinking there might be some really good bargains on lakefront property above the 65 mm right now.
Pretty much the same kind of fishing as Truman. Pomme has muskie's, which as far as I know, don't inhabit LOTO.
LOTO also doesn't usually get flooded like Truman, although last month the lake came up pretty high but not to flood stage.
There's a couple of real estate places in Warsaw, MO that can show you property on both places.

I agree, although you want a good fishing lake...to yourself, Bull Shoals is a great lake. Also this area has Branson, and if you like trout fishing taneycomo is out there as well.Jack65K wrote:It sounds like your friends can't really go wrong with either lake you mentioned. Of the two you suggested I would go for truman personally.

THANKS ALL! Will pass along your recs/insights. Sounds like two wonderful lakes. I once lived in Deepwater, MO just before they started flooding Truman. I recall the annual migration of the tarantulas across the highway to Warsaw. THAT was scary! Thanks again!
