Leave New Toon in Water at a State Park Marina?
So I am thinkng of renting a slip at a small lake ( Pomme de Terre)at a State Park Marina...
Here's the deal...my Harris Flotebote Tritoon is a year old. I am considering renting a slip for June & July at the State Park Marina at Pomme de Terre. I have several concerns and still consider myself a newb about these things so.....a little nervous..
1. It would not be on a lift and in would be in the water for two months.
2. Fishing is allowed on the docks and the locals fish it a lot...pretty impoverished area
3. Very dark at night...not real sure how secure...several outboards were stolen from a dealer about a mile away a year or so ago...taken off new boats on trailers. I am not aware of problems at this Marina but security would be from the Park Ranger driving through on his/her rounds.
I have rented on weekends with no problems in the past.
Thoughts?

There are two ways of looking at this. First your toon has insurance so your covered there. If the State Park rents you a slip are they not responsible for the safe keeping of your property. Unless they have you sign a release to have yourself responsible.
If it's open after dark then I would not leave it there overnight much less two months. At our state park everyone is out by 8:00 p.m. and the gates closed and locked. Only person in the park are a game warden and renters in the tents and cabins.
I think I would just find somewhere else or another lake. Happy Boating no matter what you do.

I'm preparing to rent a slip for the summer and others would have access. The advice I have gotten is to just make sure to not leave valuables on the boat. Is there a boat style alarm system you could rig up? Maybe a wild game camera?

I have a motion sensor alarm on our toon, it's solar powered and emits a loud siren with strobe lights if anyone gets on board at night. It's cheap, but loud enough to scare any thieving bastards or trespassers away, or at least draw attention of others to your boat. I have seat covers instead of a playpen cover, so it's able to charge itself during the day, no draw on the boat battery.

Do it. You will find that you will use it a lot more when you can just show up, uncover it, and go.
Insurance is there for your concern around theft/damage - have fun, the more its in the water the better.
I leave mine in the water from May - October - Our marina pulls it out twice a year to pressure the wash the toons, check and see if they will do that for you.

This is awesome! I may have to buy one of these, mine stays at our lot at the lake. Usually there are enough neigbors around we are ok, but this would at least scare the crap out of someone and make them wonder if someone close heard it. How long does it flash and siren?cleatus wrote:I have a motion sensor alarm on our toon, it's solar powered and emits a loud siren with strobe lights if anyone gets on board at night. It keeps going as long as it senses motion,
no motion, about 15-20 seconds.
You can switch from just strobe, to strobe and siren. There's a video in the link i posted to hear what it sounds like, I think I got mine through Amazon.
