Doesn't mater since the bottom of most transoms have a big hole in the bottom to let water in and out, but silicone will help with wood rot around bolts

Yes,now that you mentioned it probably only splash water would be on those bolts. I did treat the bolt holes [5 on each side] holding the transom with a liberal coating of urethane,the bottom ones stay pretty wet.

I would coat the holes with thin epoxy and let cure completely. ream out the holes if need be, and seal with 3M 4200 polyurethane sealant

Just a quick thread hijack. I assume sealant isn't needed for the all aluminum transoms correct?
