Need Help with Edge Guards on New Pontoon Houseboat

#1 Post by Thompsdw » Mon Mar 03, 2014 8:16 am

Hi everyone. Just decided to purchase a 34' fiberglass toon houseboat. It is a definite fixer upper. The edge of the deck (about 5") is wood that has been wrapped in carpet. Is there an economical way to improve the edge? I hate to use wood just because it will require upkeep. Any other ideas or sources of products? I have been looking but cannot seem to find anything.

Do you have pics you can post ? Best bet is probably aluminum trim or a rub rail.

I was also thinking about using a 1"x6" trexx board on the perimeter ..............

Yeah dock edge, trex would work. A pre made rub rail could take a beating but would be the most expensive. Is your boat made by Catamaran Cruisers ? I like it.

Yes it is a Catamaran Cruiser 34'. Nice boat, just not cared for as well as we would like, but for less than $7,000 - I can take a project!

They are known to be well built. There's a bunch of them on the Upper Chesapeake and rivers where I boat.

It seems to be very well built. This weekend is cleanup. The only thing I am concerned about is blistering on the fiberglass toons. I cannot find someone on the lake or local that has the ability to pull the boat, pressure wash and inspect the toons. No divers her either. I did feel with my hand as best I could, but with the scum buildup - I am not sure I could feel much of anything. I'm not sure how much to worry about the issue, but the boat is ours!!!!
