Prop Selection (150hp Tritoon)

OK, I've done some searching, but it is proving to be somewhat difficult to find some starting points for a prop for my Tritoon. Most people have a starting point prop and they can get baselines and select from there. Since I'm building the boat up and bought a motor (propless), I don't have that baseline. So far, I'm looking at the 14P or 15P enertia.

I'm interesting in what people with a 150hp tritoon are using. Mine is a 22' with the sport tube and separate transom.

I know I may be able to do some testing from the Marina in spring, but I'm still curious on what props may be good candidates.

Also, I've heard the largest diameter you can get is where to start and adjust pitch accordingly?

I saw someone (don't remmeber the username) has the 15D x 15P enertia on the 150hp tritoon.

I'm no expert for sure, but I agree with getting the largest that will fit and go from there. And I can tell you after helping the owner of the sport/tri I built last winter tweak his set up, you will need to have the motor mounted high. We eneded up with his 135 Evinrude as far up on the transom as we can get it. Still have yet to test it in that position (and with a little less pitch), but I believe it's going to be perfect height wise.

My Bennington 24SSLX uses a 15 pitch Yamaha Reliance stainless prop, and it's running 6000 rpms @ 40 mph. If I'm light, it can squeeze another 100 rpms and 1 mph out of it.

But since you're talking an Enertia prop, I assume you're talking about a Merc 150 FourStroke engine. You might start with a 15 pitch Enertia, break in the engine a little (if it's new) and see if the boat trimmed out will pull the redline on the engine. See if the dealer will let you promptly return the prop and swap it for another size if it's in like new condition.

Your boat is a little different than most tritoons with only having inside outer toon strakes. We most often see two strakes on the middle toon. The main thing is getting those nosecones out of the water, because that's where you get speed and good fuel efficiency. It's just trial and error. Worse come to worse, copy the size and angles on your strakes and have a set put on the center toon.

My next door neighbor is running a Verado 150 on a 22' Harris tritoon with complete strakes. He's using a 14 pitch Enertia.

The Enertia makes a great prop for pontoon boats, and they're available in 1" pitch increments to perfectly fine tune your boat. My local dealer's selling Enertia's for $469, but he takes no returns/swaps.

An Optimax 150 is missing about 15 hp on top end vs. the Optimax Pro XS. You may have to experiment a little with your prop with that engine. It should really run good down low, however. Like I said earlier, try to find a dealer that'll let you swap props for one that's perfect for your application.

I run a 15p enertia on a 225 merc, seems the bigger likes that prop, tried a few and its on today
