350 yahama or verado??
Cost and service issues are very similar. The Yammy 350 is an 8 cylinder and the Verado is a 6 cylinder. Anybody with a strong opinion either way??

I'd say Verado if Mercurys were made in America.

Verado hands down in my book! I've never been a Yamaha fan, not for any reason though... I'm just mercury all the way
plus it has a supercharger

That Yammy is 5.3l and 763 lbs dry. That's a hunk of a motor.

Re: 350 yahama or verado??
The Yamaha 350 has to have the flywheel replaced every 300 hours due to a design issue. For now Yamaha is paying for it. Probably fine other than that.

Re: 350 yahama or verado??
That's what scares me about my Verado! Plus the pencil coil failures & fuel pump issues. But, consider the extra 100 Yamaha pounds that will be sitting on your transom, YIKES! I've put far a lot more money into my Verado, than a flywheel would probably cost. They all have pros and cons. I would consider a Yamaha if this Verado ever blows. For 25 grand, I hope it never does!Mrtoler wrote:Verado hands down in my book! I've never been a Yamaha fan, not for any reason though... I'm just mercury all the wayplus it has a supercharger

But you just can't beat the S/C whine!!! I can hear a Verado coming from a mile away... Love it!

Re: 350 yahama or verado??
So were the Verado pencil coils and fuel level sensors, until they came out with the "new improved" design, that were just as faulty as the originals. My replacement set of coils and the 2nd fuel level sensor all have been replaced with 3rds. I'm at about $1200 out of pocket, in the last 2 years. And since they did "fix" the problem, there is no recourse for re-imbursement or out of warranty repairs. They all get around it, after awhile. All good things do come to an end.Ron Burgundy wrote:Flywheel is free in the 350
They all have their quirks. Just so I don't get stranded in the middle of Lake of the Ozarks, because of a stupid factory design flaw again.

Was it actually fuel sensors or the bad float ? The floats have been an issue because of the ethanol distorting the material the actual float is made from and then it sticks in the chamber so when the fuel level drops the float wont drop with it to add more fuel. I carried a couple hose clamps and a fuel bulb in my ranger so I wouldnt be stranded.

Re: 350 yahama or verado??
The float is the fuel level sensor, for the pump. In order to change it, you replace the whole unit, just not the float. God, if it was just that easy! But....NOPE! And yep, good ole ethanol attacks it like a wild tribe of Talibunnies! I added the bulb and clamps, on your suggestion, after the 2nd "new design" failure lasted a month and left me stranded in the LotO. I'll cut that fuel line in a heartbeat, next time! Just might leave it unhooked and toss a lit ciggy in it, if it happens again!
