newbie question

#1 Post by KylefromNJ » Mon Apr 21, 2014 8:00 am

I'm confused to why some toons (22' or so) have Mariner 9.9 HP motor on them. Don't most toon have 40+hp outboard motors? A 9.9hp seems awful little in comparison. Is there something I don't know?

Most 9.9's are for small community lakes that have a 10 hp limit. We have about 5 around the KC area like that. And a 40 is on the lower end of a normal motor for a regular use pontoon. They bigger the better in most opinions.

There are a lot of lakes that have 10 horsepower and under restrictions. Lots of 'toons for sale in those areas. Not in demand anywhere else though.

ah I see. So they are for lake use and just putt along slowly. Makes sense. I'll have to stay away from the 9.9 then.

Put a 25hp on it with 9.9 decals and be the fastest on the (Pond) lake. We did it for several customers back in MI. By the way, those are not "Lakes". They are "Ponds".
