First launch of the season, complete with flyover

#1 Post by TonyTwoToons » Sat Apr 26, 2014 5:20 pm

I successfully put the toon on the mighty Red River today. The winds were a bit high (12+ mph) and the water was a bit choppy. Traffic was light and the skies were mostly sunny. We spent most of the day at anchor near Barksdale AFB and watched the air show. There were all sorts of aerial demonstrations that were visible from the river including the F-22 and the Thunderbirds. A good time was had by all!

Boating season is upon us.

Cheers ,

Tony

Hey Tony, glad you all had a good time.... glad you went out saturday because they're saying all hell is gonna break loose here sunday.... you mentioned the thunderbirds... one of the guys I work with actually went up with one of the thunderbirds this past friday. He said it was incredible..... I don't doubt it.

I was stationed at Nellis A.F.B. (Las Vegas, NV - the Thunderchicken's home base) in 76 and 77. After awhile, you just sort of glance up and say "oh look! They're back..."

It's very cool to see them, and pretty impressive. In reality, all the manouvers they do are standard combat manouvers. I've heard the Blue Angels push the envelope more than the thunderbirds.

Just been to our county air show and no military aircraft participated. Something about the sequestration cutting back on all military participation. :(

That's a shame.... the air show that was held in N.W. Louisiana this past weekend was at Barksdale A.F.B. in Bossier City... Last years show was cancelled because of govt. cutbacks, but somehow they got it back this year.... those thunderbird pilots are something else...
