I'm brand new and I have all kinds of questions!!

#1 Post by Shipfaced » Sun May 04, 2014 7:59 am

First off let me say HELLO! I have been lurking on this forum for a couple months now since we started looking at buying a boat. We never really doubted we wanted a pontoon and my wife and I picked up our new 'toon just over a week ago!! We are still young and without kids so we settled on a low to mid level very nice setup with a 90 Suzuki. More for entertainment than fishing or speed. We have already been out on it a few days and have worked through the beginning stages of the break in and I have ALL KINDS of questions about some random stuff! I've read through almost every post on the forum and had most of my questions answered, these are what is left:

-Does anyone else have the under deck LED's installed for looks, and where can I buy these for the best deal without paying the crazy marina prices?

-We want to install a grill. I ordered another table mount piece for our table leg (the aluminum piece that screws to the table so you can "click" it onto the leg). My idea was to bolt this piece onto the bottom of a cheap gas grill for purchase at any major box store and now I have a removable pedestal mount grill. Any thoughts on this idea? The top of the table leg is wrapped in plastic but I don't think enough heat will transfer down through the bracket. We don't want a rail mount because we cover the boat after every trip with a fitted canvas cover.

-The Suzuki DF90a has a max RPM of 6300 and ours is set right at that at WOT with moderate gear and my wife and I aboard. What are the thoughts on running it full throttle for longer periods to get different locations quicker. We honestly will run it in the 4500 range more often but we are on a larger lake and it is nice to go faster sometimes.

I have all kinds of more questions honestly but I think this wall of text is enough for my introduction! I do appreciate the site already and the expertise of everyone so far. Thanks for reading and safe boating!

Welcome. http://www.pontoonstuff.com/Pontoon-Boa ... 93C54.aspx has the light kits and they are reasonable. Can't help you with the grill. And drive it like you stole it. :nana

Depending on the LEDs that is could be a bit high price on those lights
on the low end , the ones I have gotten off amazon have been dimmer than the nte ones but usable especially for accent .

NTE makes a bit better ones , well they are bigger and brighter with a bit thicker coating

Welcome, and great looking 'toon! I wish I had a picture to show, but it was on my old phone which recently crapped out, but for my grill, I have a mount very similar to the table mount. I had it installed on the back platform of the boat so that I can leave it there and it be out of the way. A plate for the pole to lock into was secured to the deck and the grill has an adapter to secure it to the pole. It's a Magma grill and my setup looks very much like this:

Welcome! :nana

I purchased some reasonably priced LED Marine lights on Amazon. Piece of cake to install...and I'm definitely not a mechanic type fix it guy....I do know how to put gas in my boat which is my level of competence....

I only have my grill out when using and then removed for covering the boat. The brackets are attached to one of my smaller side door. You just slide it in the brackets put in the cotter pins for extra security and then back out...only concern is dropping an expensive stainless steel grill into the lake making it a very shiny fish lure! Good luck!

Welcome! Beautiful boat!

ONE suggestion---check into some loading guides for your trailer--pontoons are a bitch to load in a crosswind. You will not regret it.

If you get outside the loading boards you will knock your trailer light off and then the trailer frame will slice open the pontoon like a can opener. Or so I've heard :biggrin2
