Do all dealers have excuses ?

#1 Post by smoker62 » Mon May 05, 2014 6:20 am

I ordered my new Crest on the basis of 4-5 weeks delivery straight from the dealers mouth. I told him I had to have it for Memorial day weekend which was 7 weeks away. " No problem" he said. Now I am getting a story of how Crest had a semi accident with a load of new boats and they have to go back to the factory for repair. This in turn will delay the boats being built now. At this point it is not looking good. Guess the games begin ! :x

It makes me wonder if it's a ploy to get you to say "Well I can't wait for that!", and buy one off the floor.

Few people realize the hoops boat manufacturers have to go through every day. They're trying to order in parts components as boats are built, and the component manufacturers want to be paid COD. Bankruptcies and boat builders going out of business got in their pocketbook, and they don't have the capital to build massive inventories of boat parts..

And an accident of a load of boats screws up their manufacturing schedules, which in turn screws up the schedules of the component builders like seats, etc. Boat builders have to reschedule every future order in order to replace the boats on the truck that had the accident.

I hope your boat is made already and not on the wrecked truck intransit. These situations are out of control of the dealerships, unfortunately. It could happen with any manufacturer.

Well , supposedly mine is on the line being built, but the wrecked boats will take precedent over mine , which , if true, I understand.

I would expect the same thing if it was my boat , not sure i would want it after being damaged though. I wonder if the new boat owners will be told about the accident , again , if it was an actual occurence.

My boat wasn't wrecked, but Harris encountered supplier inventory shortage problems that delays my boat's delivery to 12 weeks, about 4 weeks overdue.

I hope your boat wasn't damaged in the accident and is just along for the ride. No matter the reason, waiting those extra weeks sucks! And you can't do much about it :donno

Yeah , I guess it is what it is at this point. I ordered it with extras , double bimini , under deck lights, amped stereo , 300 Verado. Black and Platinum with powder coat rails etc. I wont be happy with a different one so it looks like a waiting game.

Maybe I'm a hard ass but the dealer told you 4-5 weeks...that left you a 2-3 week cushion..7 weeks from your requirement to have it delivered pre Memorial Day. I'm guessing the story might be BS...but even if it isn't the dealer made an oral contract on delivery date. You deserve either them getting that boat to you, or compensation for violating the terms of your contract. I really have no sympathy for the majority of dealers, and usually if the shoe is on the other foot they will be a hard ass towards you...just my two cents! :2cents

I am leary of boat dealers delivery excuses as well. Just wondering if you got the serial number off "your" boat. My buddies boat (a Lund) got delayed last summer. He did not get the serial number off his, but found out later that his boat had come in, but he sold it the same day, to someone else, and made him wait another 5 weeks to get his.
