Talon anchoring system

#1 Post by wijames » Fri May 09, 2014 12:44 pm

Has anyone installed a Minn Kota Talon anchor on their toon? How did you mount it? I've looked all over the Minn Kota sight and even contacted them for help but they don't seem to make a mount for pontoons. Any suggestions?

There is a mount. It is a angle mount. Bolts to the floor at the rear. Check with them again. I have seen it on their websit when I was checking on getting one for my toon. But decided the price was not. Worth it. I purchased a shallow water anchor system. A lot cheaper and works great

Haven't seen that one, heres what I installed. A TRAC 35 made for pontoon mounting. It's electric with a remote control. Iv'e used it only one season so far and it works great and sure beats pulling on a rode. Push a button and it goes up or down. I can stay seated and don't even have to put my beer down. :drink Also it don't matter if you place it on the front or rear on a pontoon, works great.

Not only "beats pulling on a rope" but it would eliminate the hassle of spooling a rope after the ropes on deck. That's a nice setup. :thumbsup

Why an anchor of course. :lol3 I'm using a 18lb river anchor here on the lake. It digs in just enough to hold but not too deep as a fortress would and easy for the motor to pull it up. Works great, I'm happy with it. They are making the gears on the motor out of metal now, before they were plastic and had some problems.

No issues at all. I deploy it using about a 5 to 1 scope. The line swings far out and the toon swings in the direction as the wind so the motor is always clear. Retrieving the line comes straight up from the tip of the bracket and clears everything. Like I said, I'm liking this. :thumbsup :thumbsup It also has a safety catch for trailering to support the anchor. :alright

Which shallow water system did you get? I've tried several and every one has bent or broken. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm wanting something to use in the intercoastal. we regularly get 15-20 kt winds at the beach we go to.

I just took one of thses off my boat and put it in the garbage! I bought the saltwater version and it still rusted like hell in just one season and the remote quit working after only a couple of months.

I've tried these and they just dont do the trick in saltwater, even in 10-15 kt winds.

Thanks for posting, That would work but was hoping not to have to mount it to my motor tummel or spenf an additional $250.00 for an additional mount. I'm going to the boat show this weekend and hope to see a few installs like this there. They may also have some show specials to bring down the price a little.
