Big poker run on our lake this weekend

#1 Post by sunedog » Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:13 pm

Big poker run on our lake (Lake Murray, SC) this weekend. Lots of cool hardware from all over the Southeast will be here. This is my favorite:

12 foot wide so you have to trailer it in a tilted position:

Oh -- the guy who owns this has a helicopter to match it. Very wealthy but still a cool guy. Had a cheesburger with him and his girlfriend year before last.

Wife and I will be on a 32' cat (catamaran hull) Daytona Eliminator with twin 525's that only does about 100 MPH. That's OK. We have a kid so we won't ride together over 100 MPH. Fastest I have been is 126 and fastest she has been is 142. That was on a 38' Skater (cat) with twin 1100 HP engines.

And some pontoons will make the run, so this post is legit for this site. 8)

I think that was the same one I saw being trailered last year to the Michigan city boat show on the big pond.

when it comes to poker runs.... it ain't how fast you get there.... it's enjoying the journey to each spot, and the socializing, and tossing of the beads...... and it's how the cards fall on the table...

I would hate to trailer that boat in a stiff cross-wind.
Nice looking though.

Sometimes he pulls it with his matching (of course) Prevost bus. All together, that rig is well over 100 feet long. Flies his own chopper. Drives his own bus. Pretty impressive guy.

And here's the matching chopper:

Great weather. Lots of speed and fun. No one got hurt.

You guys will probably enjoy this one more than boat pics:

Cool boats! They have a huge poker run every year on lake Cumberland that brings in the big boys! I love to see the turbine powered Hustlers and such run! I watched some guys with fountains running one year flying down the lake and a hi performance bass boat passed them! I knew one of them and he said by gps he was doing 90 when the bass boat flu past him. They have a couple of hilocopters on the bottom of the lake that crashed trying to film some of these boats a few years ago.

Being in the founding family of Coca Cola looks like it pays well, nice toys.

Our lake's poker run is this weekend; hundred plus high performance boats running up and down the lake. Here, the run is for H.E.R.O.E.S. Care and The Global Orphan Project. Later in the year, they also do a run for Wounded Warriors where they take out soldiers who are going through rehab of some sort.

To keep it pontoon related, I wanted to do the Wounded Warrior last year and take someone in a wheelchair, get a little head start, get out of the way, so we could watch all the heavy iron fly by as they headed for the first stop. Nope, not allowed to leave early. That and they don't get anyone in a wheelchair for the event. Oh well.

What happens at the lake stays at the lake. Unless I have my camera handy.
