I pull 31 GPS at 6,200 RPMs. 14" dia 13 pitch 3 blade. Just me and the Missus on board, full load (35 gals) fuel.

Of course, that's on glass water, trimmed up to the sweet spot, just before the prop breaks free and ventilates. (Rev limiter is around 6,400)

I have the same boat/motor but it's a 2013, about the exact same performance. 31 mph max. confirmed by GPS.

I thought i would throw my hat in the ring
i have a 2014 Harris cruiser 200
two 25" logs with a 90 hp merc four stroke

running a 13.4 x 15 four blade prop
23 mph GPS at 6400 rpm with light load 2 people
kinda disappointed in the speed, gets up to speed quick but kinda slow top end

looks like i could run a 17 pitch but that seems kinda tall for a 90
recommended range for the 90 is 6,000 rpm

comments welcome

Mike, you may have a little cavitation going on there.

This Prop Slippage Calculator comes up with 48% slip for your setup.

Also, I seem to recall someone saying that 6400 is the where the rev limiter is for the 90. I could be wrong, anybody know? :donno

are you thinking that the motor is set too high
i think it is second hole from down the top. the boat is about a hour away, will look tomorrow nite
when running at speed i can see the cavitation plate is even with top of water
i can only trim up a little before it blows out
what is required to lower motor, does it need a crane or hoist??
the motor is about 400 lbs

your thoughts are appreciated

Right now, I have the 13.8x15 4 blade on mine. It cavitates at full throttle in right turns and 1' waves and my motor is set 2nd hole. Brown truck just dropped of a 3 blade 14x13 like the other fellow are running, I might to get to try it this weekend.

As for picking this beast up, it will take a hoist of some sort. Before messin with it, you may want to contact the dealer and tell him what you are seeing. I think Mercury put these 15P props on which don't look right for these toons. Maybe he'll offer you a 14x13 3 blade to try.

I spoke to the parts guy last week and he thought it sounded good to him
that 22-23 was normal and 6400 rpm was ok. I am working with the service guy on a warranty issue, maybe i will talk to him
he seemed pretty knowledgeable about it.
I am not looking for miracles but this boat should run 25-27 or so i would think
with the rpm i am turning something is not set up right, This boat is a Harris which is owned by Brunswick marine which owns
Mercury, you would think they could set this up correct from the factory.

Mounted the 14x13 3-blade and took her down to the local bayou. Just me and 1/2 tank of gas, she musted 29.4 (GPS) MPh at 5600 RPM. Cavitation is better but anything much above full down will demonstrate the rev limiter. Think I will remove the 'V' deflector off the bottom of the motor pan to see I can relieve the cavitation and give the lower unit a little more bite to pull the toons up a little more without bowing out. Right now, 5000RPm produces a comfortable 25MPh.

A block of wood under the lower unit fin(bottom of the lower unit) and a floor jack or bottle jack lifting gently will raise or lower an outboard enough to change holes.

Don't take the lower bolts out just the upper that have to change holes, just loosen them enough to slide it up or down. If the motor tilts a little(port and starboard) use a sharp center punch or spud to line up holes to re-bolt. I've done it before with as big as a 150 hp outboard.

Thanks for the suggestion Rg. I have an big orange bottle jack for those kind of jobs. :biggrin2

I think I'll give the deflectorrectormy a shot first, I have a TIG so If that don't do it, I'll glue another one back on and try lowering the motor a notch.

Glad you got you boat dialed in better
i went over to my marina this weekend and they were super busy.
and the service mgr was not in. i will inquire about this next weekend and see what he recommends
not happy with 22 mph @ 6400 rpm.
Rcg Texas are you saying that the lower bolt holes are slotted and the upper bolts
adjust the height.

Well OK its not fair to take advantage of an old person. Y'all have me second guessing myself now. I just lowered my sons 150 last week and that's what I remember. But I have slept since then. Its one or the other but I recollect it being the upper holes not slotted and the lower hole slotted on the Yamaha 150. I don't have one here right now to confirm that though.
