Taking the Pontoon out for the first time in two years

#1 Post by mike » Thu Jul 03, 2014 1:00 pm

Wish me luck, I think the new fuel pump will fix my problems but I am going to give her a spin and test everything out. If all goes well, I will be taking the family out lots this summer!

Well, the boat ran great for about 3 hours. Then after anchoring up for about 30 minutes and fishing, it started acting up again. It would die during idle and when going into gear. I did find that if I pushed in the choke when it was about to die it would come back to life and run. I had to keep bumping the choke to get her idled onto the trailer. I am mixed on the trip, when it ran boy it ran great. Now I am starting to suspect the fuel tank or line? Any thoughts? I am buying a 3 gallon tank with a new line that I will hook up next trip and see what happens? Any suggestions?

Felt GREAT to be back out on the water again, I am really looking forward to getting out more now! :fasttoon :usa :dance

Sounds like fuel to me. maybe restricted somewhere the new fuel tank and hose will show where it might be, good Idea.

That is what I am thinking, I just put in a new fuel pump... I would think if it was a blockage in the carbs it would be happening all the time?

Definitely a fuel delivery issue if pushing in the choke makes it run better. If it hadn't been run in awhile, probably varnish in the carbs. And yes, junk in the carbs can make it run terrible and as the junk in the carbs moves around it runs better.

Pull the fuel bowls off and look for debris in them. I've seen algae grow in ethanol fuel sitting over a year...fuel bowl was full of it in a generator that was given to me..
