No sweat Rg, I couldn't say off the top of my head so went out and looked after reading your post. No slots in the Merc 90. If there was, it would make since to put them at the bottom as the the slots would weaken the mounting point and the top pulls on the bolts where the bottom pushes.
They say memory is the second thing to go, damned if I can remember what the first was.

Correctamundo! that's exactly right the bottom holes are slotted and the top have holes that require moving the bolts.

Another update...
I removed the "V" deflector from the bottom of the motor pan. Now, the trim is very effective and I get zero cavitation. I get 5700 rpm and top out at 29.5 mph.

The dealer finally got over to work on my boat, they had a couple of warranty issues and wanted to take care of everything at once,
they lowered the engine one bolt hole and what is difference, engine now runs at 5500 at 26 mph on gps I actually hit 27.1 on one run but a solid 26 on GPS. I am very happy with the boat now, it feels like a new boat

Glad they got it sorted out. You're happy, that's what counts.
