Need a new in dash depth finder, any suggestions?

#1 Post by STEVEBRENDA » Mon Jul 14, 2014 10:27 am

My 10 year old Humminbird no longer has a replacement transducer available for it. Does anyone have a suggestion for an in dash mounted depth finder that fits into the hole which is about 2 1/4 inches? We do not need anything other than depth.

Thanks

I'm going to install the HawkEye with air & water temp on my boat when I get off ship in a couple of days that's all I can offer at this time. I choose the HawkEye for it's simple appearance and low cost I'll admit; as I'm just not into fishing at this point and all I want to know is water depth. I thought about getting one with a GPS and chart plotter but then thought not as I've got a large screen smartphone with GPS so there are plenty of apps that can do speed, direction and location.

We have had good luck with the Humminbird so we bought the 650HDR for $100.

Thanks for your input.

I must update. I paid what I thought was a reasonable amount for the Humminbird HDR650 - about $110. I go thru all of the trouble of installing the thing, only to find the transducer cable is 2' short. For an extension cable (of which their is nothing too it), they are going to charge me $34.99 plus S & H and sales tax.

I have opted to uninstall the unit and return it to the dealer. I have been able to find other units that will not rape me for the extension.

I will not buy Humminbird products ever again. I have been using their depth finders for 20+ years, but know when I am getting screwed.
