Gas Prices On The Lake
Filled up the first time this year on Saturday. Took 14.5 gallons. Not bad for 1/2 a season on the water.
Price was 5.25 a gallon. I think the price in town for gas is 3.37 now per gallon.
Just wondering what everyone is paying for gas?

That's why I have 4 5-gal gas cans so I can buy gas in town instead of out on the water. It also allows me to put in the Sta-bil and YamaLube at accurate amounts to each can. I use a jiggle hose to fill the boat from the cans.

Re: Gas Prices On The Lake
Our city gasoline is usually $1.50 cheaper than lake gasoline--even though lake gasoline has no road taxes.
And I too have 3 five gallon jerry cans to haul gas to my boat. Off loading is no big deal for saving $22.50.

Hello All.
You guys are allowed to fill your boats at the dock? We would have a S.W.A.T. team mobilized within seconds and 6 assault rifles pointed at us before we got a gallon in...
Sincerely,
Rich

Paid $4.75 on Tablerock lake in Southern Missouri last week, in town was $3.23. Filled up before we launched and ran out after 4 days.

Re: Gas Prices On The Lake
I'm sure I shouldn't, but since it's on our own dock I do it anyways. If I rented a slip at a public dock, I probably would have to load the boat and fill it at the station in town (still cheaper than paying the overpriced stuff on the water). Or I'd just take my gas cans on the boat and then stop at a sandbar with nobody around and fill it there.justrfb wrote:Hello All.

$4.99 Ethanol Free Aqualand Marina on Lake Lanier in Georgia. There is a RaceTrac closer to my house that sells Ethanol Free for $3.99 and I'm debating whether or not to buy a 14 gallon gas caddy, and transport it back and forth on a hitch mounted luggage carrier... Hassle of dealing with the caddy plus its $109. In theory the caddy pays for itself after 109 gallons of usage. One good thing would be not having to deal with going to the fuel dock to get gas.

Edit: Just realized I haven't even checked on rules around filling boats at the dock... Probably a no-no at my marina.

Re: Gas Prices On The Lake
We have a lot of marinas with gas up here, so there is a ton of competition. Usually only 30-40 cents higher than street around these parts.

Re: Gas Prices On The Lake
its hit or miss, usually around 1$ a gallon more recently BUT its always 91 non-oxy so really ~0.60 more, not worth the effort to load 3 cans into the truck, drive 20 miles round trip to the gas station, and come back and fill the pontoon with a funnel. I'd save less than 10$ after you figure out the gas used in my truck to go get the gas.

I boat on one of the top 5 cleanest lakes in the country yet I see people doing this. I believe it's just the boats that have to mix the fuel so I don't say anything, but it drives me crazy. (not bashing...just saying

We're paying $4.44 right now. Considering there is only one gas dock on the lake I think that's pretty good. Certainly not worth bringing my own. (It's around $3.50 on land)
We're using less than half the gas on our pontoon than we used with our bow rider so I've got no complaints.

Re: Gas Prices On The Lake
At El Dorado Reservoir/Shady Creek Marina, Marina gas seems to run $1.20 per gallon higher than City Gas in El Dorado.
I have a 28 gallon tank and like keeping it at half full or above. We have our boat in a slip at the Marina.
That being said, I figure it's worth the $10-12 bucks a fill to not have to drive the pickup over to El Dorado, hook up to the trailer in the storage yard, drive it down to the ramp, walk to the toon, drive it around to the ramp, load it onto the trailer, drive into town, fill the tank, then drive back to the lake, back down the ramp, unload off the trailer, drive the toon to the slip, walk back up to the pickup & trailer and take it back to the storage yard.
I also figure it gives me the benefit of being a regular customer of the Marina Lady, Debbie.
Debbie is a nice gal and makes her living running the Marina and has for about 20 years. She's also the lady to call when you have a problem out on the lake as she knows all the regulars and knows who would come give you a tow back to the marina, etc. etc. etc.
If I were trailering the boat, I'd be saving the extra money but as it is, I think it's worth the difference to help keep the Marina/Gas/Convenience Store/ and Breakfast/Lunch Spot open.

Just curious- why does that drive you crazy? I saw more gas spilled at a marina on the coast in one hour than I have ever spilled filling my boats over decades. If you use the jiggle siphon you should not spill any gas.
Re: Gas Prices On The Lake
I think it was $3.99 at Beacon Bay on Lake Livingston last month. If not mistaken, that was E free premium too.
The Shell station right at the turn off to the boat ramp was $3.39 for 10% regular.
