Source for Music on the toon

#1 Post by mofn » Wed Jul 23, 2014 7:03 pm

While walking thru a store a couple of weeks ago I ran across rechargeable speaker that works with blue tooth. I had been holding off on a stereo system and all that entails due to in the next 2 years? Going to rebuild the toon. In the mean time we would have to listen to the crap of the 30 somethings at the sandbar.
So I got a JBL by Harman $149. Runs for 12 hours before a recharge, and has a port to power my phone should it die. The blue tooth is off my phone with songs off the SD card (no 4g for Pandora where I'm at) and the phone already was out on the boat with us. I'm Using it at home trying it out works fine. It is what it is, it does not match a stereo system. But for $150, no cutting, no wires, its portable and came with a water proof bag, no CD's in the sun...... I'm happy. Passing it along in case someone was in the same boat also. (no pun intended)
So tomorrow we are going to listen to U2 live in Boston 1983 (War tour), Led Zep live 1977-Vancouver, Tubes live- a little W.P.O.D. :)

Sounds like that will do the job -- if that's

Hey now...... :nono :nono

I only impose my music on the beach if its a smaller group where everyone knows each other.

Music is an interesting thing, you can't please everyone all the time. I listen to a wide range of stuff and try to adapt to the crowd I'm with.

Just pokin fun by the way.

BTW, those music boxes work well. My neighbor has one he takes on the boat, and serves it's purpose.

Bought a really cheap (in both ways) dual brand head unit, speakers wore out after first season. Bought sony replacement speakers, they wore out after 2 seasons. I have these in now, we'll see how they hold up

The head unit FM tuner doesn't work, all we do is use the AUX jack to play pandora from a phone. I have one of these bluetooth receivers as well where the USB on the head unit powers the receiver to allow the phone to not be tethered to the head unit.

The range on the bluetooth isn't much (cuts out when trying to use phone in chair on beach when pontoon is beached) but it sounds ok... Much better than trying to power it off of AC. Its a cheaply designed product but works OK powered off USB.

I believe the Bluetooth range for phones and most in-dash radios is only about 33'. Some higher-powered Class 2 & 3 Bluetooth systems have much greater range. I love the Bluetooth on the new Kenwood in my boat. The Kenwood microphone is mounted behind the windshield, facing the driver. My son was traveling down the lake at a good clip talking to me via the Bluetooth. It was crystal clear. I could also easily hear and talk with his wife and daughter over Bluetooth...and they were sitting in the front of the pontoon. It helps too that the Honda outboard is soooo quiet. The windshield apparently blocked all wind noise but picked up voices perfectly. The Bluetooth also works great for music.

We have several of those portable music players. Recently the internal charger failed on this one while we were in Florida....

We did some searching around and came up with the Bose Soundlink

and the TDK system which is "waterproof"

Sony head unit with Ipod, four 8" Rockford speakers, two Rockford 10" subwoofers, one four channel amp, one mono amp. When people are on my boat, they listen to what I listen to. Good thing for them I like verity. Rock, classic rock, hip hop, new country, old country, oldies and a little rap if it has a beat to it. You never know what the next song is going to be!!!!!!!!

The unit worked well for four days. Two issues I ran into were the following. At WOT with the wind not loud engough. At 50% throttle was ok at max volume. The other issue is while underway they need to be tied down, mine fell when I hit a good size wake.
When I rebuild, I think I'm not even going to install a stereo system?
As for Bose, that Drago mentioned, I saw them but I was not going to shell out that type of money for an experiment. Bose makes great products, I just wish they made a docking system for Andriod.
