What's this wire for? (Mariner/Yamaha 40)
In the harness from my 1980 Mariner 40 there is this separate 3-wire set on a keeper. Black is ground, yellow looks to be key on ("ign")--but what's the green wire for? I have no gauges (other than the GPS/speedo/tach/everything else digital I added) so the only things the factory harness connects to is the key, kill and choke switches and all those were grouped in a fatter cable.

With 540 pages I thought I would find the answer...nope. Manual maybe didn't cover the Yamaha-built Mariners? 1980 only included 50, 70 and 80HP models.

Re: What's this wire for? (Mariner/Yamaha 40)
Browsing newer model Yamaha manuals I see they use green for the stator "lighting" coil. Is there any reason for powering actual lights (I'm thinking dash lights) off the stator AC? I'm guessing no -- so then this must be the trigger signal for a tach?
