Follow up on this story. I was planning on buying a new to me boat in June, the week I was going to drive to get it, this lower started making an awful racket, pulled it apart, no water at all in it, but sure enough all gears are damaged. Called the guy that built it, and he said, "Two years is about right on a lower" Obviously I am not taking it back to him after a douchey statement like that. A buddy says he can do it on the cheap. The good thing is, very soon that motor will be somebody elses problem.

It is statements like this that I'm glad I bought a new boat.

Anyway, what does the SS prop have anything to do with what happened to your lower unit?

My meaning of that statement is just the fact that the boat is sold when the lower is built and running again. I cant handle more than one boat to repair at a time. (reference to B.O.A.T, bring out another thousand)

Steel VS. Aluminum props: Steel doesn't give, which means when you hit something, all the force goes to the gears, the natural weak point in the equation. Aluminum will bend and break prior to the energy getting to the gears.
I know some on this forum dont believe the same way I do, and thats fine, its just opinion from MY experience.
