Playcraft owners...

#1 Post by PQ29 » Tue Jul 08, 2014 2:21 pm

Do any of you guys have one with the new step in the toon?
it seems that 0-30 there good but 30-50mph they porpise really bad. Too which I'm surprised to see them installed on quite a few for sale with the 300 Verado on the back since the top speed of them is low to mid 50's..

Anyone have any insight?

Maybe fasttoons can give you an answer. He had a thread that included them here - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18681&hilit=Playcraft&start=30

What happens at the lake stays at the lake. Unless I have my camera handy.

I have not run a Playcraft step hull yet. There are two different designs. I was told that they are 2-3 mph faster and have a very small trim range without porpoising.
I've just ordered a Playcraft Daytona 22' with a Bob's Jackplate powered by a Mercury Optimax 250hp ProXS. Hope to finally crack 60mph with it. Came close to ordering it with the step hull. I've got a friend that ordered a 23' Playcraft Daytona with a 225hp Mercury Verado.
He will get his in mid-Sept. It will be interesting to see the performance difference- The Verado is about 130lbs heavier.
Next one maybe a 21' Daytona with a step- it could be fun.

Thanks for the information. How does the playcraft compare in ride and handling to Manitou shp and bennington esp?

Manitou will out turn it but the Playcraft turns well also. The standard Playcraft does not have outside lifting strakes so you can turn it hard and it leans into the turn. You can improve the turning of the Playcraft by ordering the 36" center toon but the stock setup turns great as it is.
If you see any pontoon boat ,except the Manitou, with outside lifting strakes, good luck on getting it to turn well at speed.
The Playcraft runs best in a 2' chop with a great ride-no flex, it's a one piece plywood hull.

From the set ups I've seen on Bennington they don't compare to either the Manitou or the Playcraft-but they do have petty interiors-IMO.
