Thought it was the fuel line so replaced it and thought all was well. Today my son and I were out. Ran it up and down the lake at close to WO for at least 8-10'miles . Ran like a top. Then it just friggin Quit. Would fire back up run 4 -5 sec and die. Same story as last times waited about 30 min and it fired up and we limped back to the marina at 15 miles an hr. Pissing steady steam of water and ran smooth when it did run. I've checked fuel sender, fuel filter replaced, new fuel line, plugs (just for the hell of it) . Pulled cover, doesn't feel hot so don't think it's heat related unless it's ignition module which would be a stretch since it re fires pretty quickly. It's almost like its flooding itself out, but what the hell do I know...maybe fuel pump?

Now I'm faced with dragging the sunuvabitch 40 miles back to Tulsa and waiting 3 weeks for one of these crooked ass merc dealers to take a a look at it. I AM READY TO SINK THE SUNOVABITCH.. does anyone have any experience with this? KIds and wife won't get on it and the wife threatened me with death if I trade it off for another one. AAAARRRRGHHHHH!!!!!!
again-----word===VST tank----ethanol eats up a rubber grommet---fuel pump throws craps. There is a Merc bulletin on it which my service dept evidently didn't know about. My symptoms EXACTLY like yours---quit running---would fire up for 3 or 4 seconds and quit again. Call Merc service in Wisconsin on Monday-----again---word======VST tank. fuel pump----rubber grommet. Also--after the 4th time I broke down in 4 yrs--Merc factory replaced all my coils for free---said there was a problem with the coils that yr--2009. Good luck.... And call factory---evidently dealers are universally dumbasses when it comes to fixing this problem

PS--factory wont badmouth a dealer---they are better weasels than politicians----you will get a PR spin that will make your head spin :) But you may get some new coils out of the deal and they may tell the dumbass dealer there is a bulletin on the VST tank fix....oh---and tell the dumbasses to remove the old part before installing the new one---don't put it over the old one----heard that has happened too. Will leak and dick up again....

I have a whole new plan...gonna trade this POS off...yea I know.lol. The marina is a g3 dealer and has a new 22 ft with a 115 Yamahamer on it. Really nice boat. Took it out for awhile this morning. Wow, what a difference! I think I got the wife on board . Don't owe any money on it so maybe I can make all this go away with swift handshake.

I am one also for the fuel level sensor in the fuelpump/ vst. Mine 4 stroke was doing same thing and finally got dealer to replace and voila! No more issues. There is a recall on the sender sensor on the Verado engines and it's the same part number on the four strokes. Not sure of the 2 strokes?? Mercury should recall all the sensors not just the high $$$ Verados!

We'll fellas, I solved that problem. Traded that piece of shit off today for a brand
New 2014 22 ft G3 Sunchaser with a 115 Yamaha. Whoo hoo!!!!! I don't screw around with things that don't run, especially a damned boat. After all the problems, there is no way I would ever trust that damned motor again. Plus this one is plush , mushy and will run almost 40 m.p.h.. With no problems.
Agreed to sell my Harley to pay for most of the trade difference limiting the amount out of my pocket to about 3500.00. I'm 53 yrs old and have been thinking about getting off of the bike for about 6 months now. I've cheated the reaper for 35 years without getting hurt on one. Figure it's time to hang up the helmet while I still can plus the money goes for something the whole family can and does enjoy so it's win win for all of us....
It will be in my slip on Saturday after the marina folks prep it out and my wife and daughter decide which color they want...red , blue or black....I'm just happy to get rid of that piece of shit Mercury. Never again.

Congrats on the new boat. I'll be curious as to how close you get to 40 with it.

I took one out on Sunday for a little test drive...same boat , same motor. Speedo stops at 35m.p.h. Buried the needle. The marina /dealer is getting a GPS/mapping unit set up on it for me so I will compare to see exactly how much over the 35 I can get. I was realy surprised at how fast it was. Stainless prop . dont know the pitch etc. Im sure there's more speed to be had with learning the trim sweet spot and a possible prop change.
All I can tell you is that I really am going to love this boat. This pontoon is only the 2nd thing with a motor on it, that I have ever bought brand new. Cars, trucks, motorcycles...always bought slighly used and saved the money as compared to new. No need to go over the financial impact/benefit of that but lets just say it works. However, with the boat Im not taking anymore chances . Got a workable cash deal and everyone wins and I owe nobody for it when its done .

Dont put too much faith in the speedo. Those are notoriously off. 40 out of a 115 is stretching it in any configuration. My buddys brand new tri toon straked Bennington is hitting 38 with a 150. I have a 300 and so far ran 46 tops .

I'm pretty confident in the 35 . Maybe not 40. My 21 ft w a 90 ran 29 on gps.
Heck, I'm good w whatever it will run. The amount of time I will be WOT will be very small %.

Is your G3 a tri toon with strakes ? My Southbay ran 25 with two tubes and a 115 4 stroke. I figured strakes and a 3rd tube might get me 30ish. It was 23'6 long . I probably would have kept it if I could have gone 35 . Then again , I am never happy. I am pissed I can only get 46 on my 25' 300 . :donno
