outboard engine mounting pods
I have a couple of questions.......I have noticed on some pontoons that the engine is mounted farther back passed the back of the pontoons. Is there advantages to this? The other thing is my boat transom is wood...2 x 12 where the 90 Johnson is mounted and the pod is aluminum. I have not noticed wood transoms on any other pontoons. Mine is a 24 ft sun tracker party barge 1993. Is this normal?

It is for those years. As the hp has crept up they have made transom changes.

Re: outboard engine mounting pods
What MH Hawker said. I don't see much wood anymore. I have heard people say that the wood was to help with noise and vibration.
My all aluminum "motor pod" works well and even when I had a bent prop shaft I felt no vibration. Probably one reason it took me a while to notice it.
When my boat came out in 1995 it had wood bolted to the aluminum motor mount.

Re: outboard engine mounting pods
mine has wood and is starting to sag again already! I will be replacing with an aluminum transom pod from Bill in Salem over the winter.

Re: outboard engine mounting pods
Thanks for the info guys...I was hoping that it was normal...and not a rig up job the previous owner did. curtis, when you replace your pod let meknknow how it works out and are you going to extend the transom out farther past the rear of the toons or anything like that....thanks

Re: outboard engine mounting pods
it is further back of the toons for making tighter easier turns I believe
