We have had our 125HP Mercury since it was new in 2003. Knock on wood, but he only problem we had/have is that the magnets in the oil tank came loose and therefore our warning alarm will not work.

I would buy Mercury again in a heart beat.

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

I hate to see this turned into a Merc bashing thread. In my 47 years of boating, I started at 15, I've used and owned all brands of motors. The only real pos I ever owned was a Chrysler 140 and even with it, I learned how to keep it running. I think in todays world it is much better to have a good dealer/mechanic then to worry about manufacture. I don,t take my motor to the dealer where I bought the boat because they were axxholes but by word of mouth I did find a good dealer. I don't blame Mercury for some dealers service manager being a azz. Take a chill pill and find you a good dealer, then stick with him. There are just as many bad Yamaha's and Honda's as Mercs and rudes. Just my two cents...

Ok not the voltage regulator, now Merc says the sell the stator and some keyway together, we said why did we get one, at least it was the cheapest part so far, we close to 500 bucks and still throwing money at it.

The guy has two Yamaha's sitting there in the box, wanted 22 thousand for one, to much money and we would have had to move all the furniture up front, to balance the weight of a 300 on the back of a 20 footer :scared :scared :scared :scared

We could have set a record on the number of people hanging 10 off a toon :happy :happy :happy

herb,

did you do the test in that link I sent you? I found that document after I replaced the VR, ignition switch and stator, it ended up being the cdi (switch box). There are specific intructions on checking each part with a volt meter...... I wish I found the document first.

Yep, a meaningless argument anyway since most Mercury outboards are made or co-developed by Suzuki. Never had an issue with any of my Merc or Mercruisers. 30 years of boating. It all comes down to maintenance or lack thereof.

Lots and lots of Hondas with fuel delivery systems issues though. :paranoid

We followed every thing on the page, then they totally unplugged all controls and used a remote and still not getting fire, then Merc told us to unplug each coil one at a time as a bad one will short it all out, I don't even think the people who make them know how to fix them

I should have insisted on that new E-Tec when we rebuild it, but it was my brother being cheap on the wrong thing again, but he is paying the price now running around with it trying to get it running again, no engine system should be this dam hard to work on for what they cost

Ok after buying 600 dollars worth of parts, it ended up being a broke wire on the engine, then 200.00 to the guy who spent an half hour finding the problem after telling us it was something else :censored :censored :censored :censored

At least it is running again :hammer :hammer :hammer :hammer
