your advice needed

Hey Guys ( and gals ). Kinda bummed right now... earlier today ( sunday ) me and the wife went to our storage facility to get the toon and go for a little cruise... you need to know that the man that owns the building, also owns an auction company, and that's the main use of the building. But he has allowed me to store my boat there for the past 2 years or so.. anyway when I got inside the facility, I saw there was a truck and trailer parked in front of my boat, no way to get my boat out.. so I called the owner who told me he would be there shortly to move the truck...then he tells me that I probably should start looking for another place to store the toon... Don't know if he got pissed off because I called him on a sunday or if he just needs the extra space for his auction biz.. but the end result is the same... gotta move the boat... 1 of the main reasons I liked indoor storage was the protection from the louisiana sun... not uncommon to see 100 degrees and as you all know, the sun can mess up a boat's appearance and furniture in a short time... problem is there are no other indoor facilities close by, and the ones that are around are about 30 miles round trip each way to get the boat and then take her back.. so it looks like I might have to just park her next to my garage outside... Obviously if that happens I'll be looking into buying a good boat cover ( looking at pontoon stuff covers... btw, what is the code for our membership discount ). Guess what I'm wanting to know is would you guys make that 30 mile round trip twice a weekend to use your boat or just keep it at home... other than a good cover, any suggestions on ways to protect my boat from the harsh summers down here? Appreciate your comments guys... thanks in advance.

Can you put a lean too roof off the side of your garage? Surely more money than a well fitted cover but a simple tin roof added off of an exsisting building is not very costly or hard to put up either.

As to towing 30 miles twice a weekend while I grew up with my Dad trailering from Houma to Dularge (35 to 45 minutes) every other weekend we were staying the entire weekend or longer so the trailering did not seem like a big deal. Today the big attraction for me is that I can keep my boat wet and it's only a mile from the house at our hoods marina so boat rides take no real planning.

I bought a cover from Vortex Direct http://www.vortexdirect.com/vortex-1200 ... cover.html and I'm very pleased with how heavy weight this cover is and how well it fit considering it is not a custom cover...

I have 5 outback.
One on the right where the yellow vette is , is where the pontoon goes now.
RV shed taller legs and you can buy more sides as much as you need to enclose it.

Roland a few photo's could help as far a suggestions are concerned. I went to your foundation repair thread but the photos there fail to revel enough physical characteristics of your place to suggest any viable options, for me at least.

I'm with the other guys here cover and carport you'll be more app to use the boat if its setting there not 30 or 60 miles away not sure which it is from your post.

Agreed Roland Carport! Although I still haven't go one for THE FLOATER. They PS Cover works great so far.

Bummer about the storage shed! I am going to build a shed roof shed for mine and put a cover on it as well. I am just a little south of you and a little west(I think). I know about the sun, dirt dobbers and leaves and pine needles.

A "Boatport" (Carport with taller legs) is a good idea.

As for during the boating season, I've gotta say, We really like our covered boat slip we rented.

We've already talked to the guy about doing it again for next year as it's been really handy.

But a "Boatport" would be cheaper.

For this winter, it'll be in my warehouse.

I didn't sell it when I retired.

It's a 4500 sq ft 45' x 100' warehouse with 45x75' that's 'warehouse' and a 25'x45' "shop area" that is insulated, heated and a/c'd. 12x12' doors with 14' sides and a 16' peak.

I've dubbed it my "TOY BOX" .

You might check around, and there just might be someone with a building like that who will let you rent space like the auction guy did.

I'd check the local coffee shops for ideas.

Hey guys, thanks for the input... alot of good suggestions.... I was a little p.o'ed when the guy told me I needed to find another place to store my boat, but 24 hours later, still not happy, but not pissed like I was... the idea of just bringing it home and saving that 125.00 a month does appeal to me.... The idea about the carport ( with taller legs ) is certainly something we're going to look into... the problem we have is even though we live on about 1 and a half acres, the entire lot is filled with trees, so there's really no place big enough that would allow for "turning around", plus I'd have to come up with some kind of driveway to and from the carport so I could get the boat out when it's muddy... I think for right now I'll just bring it home and park it next to the garage and put a cover over it.. I'm guessing a good cover would still protect the boat from the sun.... Bamby, If I bring it home I will be parking it right there where that foundation work was done... when I poured the drive, I had them add that little extra drive beside the garage for my son's truck... it's big enough for just the boat, but barely....here's a few pics from a weekend I had it here at the house.. as you can see, room for the boat and nothing else... so anyway, extended carport in the future, but near term looks like I'll keep her by the garage with a good cover from PS... Caddo... do you boat there also... we almost always put in at the Mooringsport launch... in a cove, a little shelter from the wind and fairly deep right off the ramp.... only issue there is limited parking.

Loyd..thanks for the advice about the fan... I guess just stick a box fan in there and let it run 24 / 7 huh?

A large size of Damp-Rid works great for under covers too. About $12 for the large size and no power lines to run.
