Caddo... do you boat there also... we almost always put in at the Mooringsport launch... in a cove, a little shelter from the wind and fairly deep right off the ramp.... only issue there is limited parking......

No, I have a camp and covered boat lift on False River (below the Mason Dixon line for you North Louisiana yanks). I do have some friends/customers in Shreveport and pretty sure some of them boat on Caddo and store their boats somewhere around there. I think Caddo has at least 3-4 boat storage facilities pretty close by but not sure of size/cost.

Great to hear there's another on here with La roots. I've spent many, many weekends on False River back when we lived in the Red Stick. The whole family skied and we did a lot of bass fishing there. We're in N MS now and really miss the bayous, crawfish, fresh seafood and Tiger Stadium.

It appears the roof-line of the garage is high enough that a competent handyman could tie in an ascetically appealing carport right where she's sitting. But I'm also thinking it's also likely to cost more than you'd like to spend at the moment.

Damp Rid? Never hear of it, but that doesn't mean anything... where do you buy it? and Craig... I've heard of people using charcoal, but it never entered my mind this time..... so if i'm using damp rid or charcoal, do I still need to run a fan? Also will either of these methods work in the very hot, very very humid Louisiana summers when the boats covered, which will be all the time if it's not out on the lake.... thanks for the tips guys...

Hey Bamby, about the roof line... those pics are a little deceiving.. they were shot from a low spot in the yard, kinda looking up..... actually had a contractor look at doing what you're talking about back when I bought the boat 4 years ago... his price was something like 11 or 12K.... half the price of the boat and trailer.... I politely declined...

You can find Damp-Rid at Walmart, Amazon, most big retailers. The large size is about $11 and good for up to 6 months for up to 250 square feet. I would poke my head inside after a few months covered and see how it's doing. The bucket will get heavier as it absorbs the moisture so you have some sort of gauge on how it's doing. Before using it I would always have moldy spots on my vinyl and under the canvas cover. After using it, not a single spot anywhere so I'm a fan for something easy that works.

Be careful with Carolina Carports if you get any amount of snow at all. We usually have mild winters here, but in 2010 mine buckled when it had 22 inches of snow on it. Last year, we had a few storms, one with 11 inches and the corner supports buckled again. The company claims they will handle a good bit of snow load, but they don't and the company doesn't back up it's product or honor warranties. I complained to them and all the did was send out new supports which I had to install myself, that bent again.

As soon as I can, I am removing mine and building a wood carport with old school 6x6 posts.
